Muru Mittigar is seeking a motivated Trainee Conservation and Ecosystem Management Practitioner to join our team and develop the skills required to restore and protect natural environments across Western Sydney.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about the environment, biodiversity and caring for Country. Working alongside experienced environmental professionals, you will gain hands-on experience in bush regeneration, habitat restoration, weed management, revegetation and ecological monitoring while completing a nationally recognised qualification - Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management.

About the Role

As a Trainee Conservation and Ecosystem Management Practitioner, you will learn to:

• Undertake bush regeneration and weed control activities

• Assist with native planting and revegetation projects

• Monitor and maintain ecosystem health

• Identify native and invasive plant species

• Use environmental tools, equipment and machinery safely

• Support conservation projects across a range of landscapes and sites

• Follow environmental, cultural and workplace safety requirements

About You

We're looking for someone who:

• Has a genuine interest in conservation, the environment and sustainability

• Enjoys working outdoors in varying weather conditions

• Is reliable, motivated and willing to learn

• Has good communication and teamwork skills

• Holds a current driver's licence (or is working towards obtaining one)

• Is physically fit and capable of undertaking outdoor field work

Muru Mittigar is a not for profit organisation which seeks to advance Aboriginal culture, and in particular Darug culture, improve the economic and social capacity of Aboriginal people and empower meaningful participation to enhance their role as traditional Custodians of Country.

Muru Mittigar means ‘Pathway to Friends’ in the Darug language (the Traditional Custodians of our area). We provide a wide range of services to support local Darug people and the wider Aboriginal community, including:

A unique meeting place for sharing cultures,

Training and employment in Natural Resource Management,

Mine and broad acre rehabilitation,

Retail and customer service,

Cultural renewal opportunities through the Ngarra Aboriginal Knowledge Centre, and

Financial counselling and interest free loans through the Muru Mittigar Community Finance Hub.

In addition, the Muru Mittigar Cultural and Education Centre offers a range of activities for visitors to learn Darug traditional ways and participate in hands-on experiences, such as boomerang throwing and didgeridoo workshops.
