
TxDOT is seeking a Traffic Systems Technician I or II based in Houston, Texas, at the Traffic Systems Maintenance Office located at 6810 Old Katy Rd. This is an entry level position supporting the maintenance of traffic signals, roadway illumination, and related traffic systems across the district. In this role, you will be part of a hands-on team responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting traffic signal equipment, lighting systems, and communication devices that keep our roadways operating safely and efficiently. Traffic Systems Tech I:
Performs entry-level work activities related to the installation, repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of traffic systems, communication, illumination and/or data collection devices/systems. Work may be performed in heavy traffic and may require extensive statewide travel. Work may require contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level perform assignments following specific instructions and are subject to frequent review by the immediate supervisor.
Traffic Systems Tech II:
Performs routine work activities related to the installation, repair, troubleshooting and maintenance and [programming] of
traffic systems, communication, illumination and/or data collection devices/systems. Work may be performed in heavy traffic and
may require extensive statewide travel. Work may require contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this
level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Traffic Systems Tech I:
Traffic Systems Tech II:
Includes all essential duties listed for Traffic Systems Tech I as well as:
Attends meetings with Area Engineers and contractors to resolve problems and implement solutions
Inspects construction methods, workmanship and maintenance procedures to ensure contractors build, install, maintain and repair traffic control/data collection related equipment or facilities in accordance with plans, specifications and contract requirements.
Follows applicable safety procedures when working in an area where other utilities such as high voltage lines, gas lines, water and sewage lines and heavy traffic are located.
Traffic Systems Tech I:
High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
No experience required
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
Traffic Systems Tech II:
High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Traffic Systems Tech I:
