Job Description

Join our dynamic and expanding transportation team as a Traffic Staff Engineer, where you’ll play a key role as part of a growing and developing practice in delivering innovative solutions for complex transportation challenges. We’re seeking a skilled professional with expertise in traffic design and analyses which includes work zone traffic control, signing and pavement marking, traffic signal design, ITS design, roadway lighting, and traffic operations analysis and simulation. The ideal candidate does not need to be proficient in all areas, but at least one to two of the areas listed. This position is available in all NC offices: Raleigh or Charlotte. Hybrid work would be acceptable for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll contribute to the Carolinas Traffic Team and impactful transportation projects by:

  • Developing creative, effective traffic solutions for diverse roadway and multi-modal projects.
  • Engaging in client management and relationship-building.
  • Representing the firm through presentations at industry events and conferences.
  • Developing new areas of expertise and diversifying your own talent base.

Required Skills & Required Experience

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Preferred to have Professional Engineer license, with ability to obtain NC PE within 3 months.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in traffic engineering.
  • Project or Task Management experience is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of state and municipal policies, standards, specifications, and guidelines desired.
  • Experience preparing traffic engineering design plans for a state DOT or municipality.
  • Additional experience in one or more of the following traffic engineering subdisciplines is desired:
    • Preparing traffic management plans and temporary traffic control plans
    • Traffic signal design, closed-loop signal system design, and ITS design;
    • Experience preparing signing and pavement marking plans;
    • Traffic analyses using software such as Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, VISSIM, SIDRA.
    • ITS and Lighting design for major roadway projects
  • Excellent communication, presentation, writing and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience using MicroStation, ORD, or Civil3D is preferred.
