Description

Primary Objective

The Traffic Signal Technician – IMSA II supports AM Signal's Southern California territory by providing field and in-house technical services for traffic signal control devices and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) products. This role serves as a key technical resource for clients, contractors, and internal teams, ensuring products are installed, tested, and maintained correctly, and that customers are trained and self-sufficient in the systems AM Signal provides. Candidates should live in or near a major metropolitan area within the territory.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate new and existing projects, preparing documentation, products, software, and backup equipment as needed.
  • Provide and/or ensure product training is completed for clients or contractors prior to product installation.
  • Identify product deficiencies or needs and inform sales of potential opportunities; actively promote new or updated products and maintenance contracts.
  • Update firmware and software as needed, program, test, and troubleshoot all product lines when required.
  • Facilitate returned merchandise authorizations (RMA) and repairs, including maintaining documentation and issue logs.
  • Stay current on changes in existing products and support warehouse personnel as needed, including internal training for new product lines.
  • Perform technical job builds, including cabinet installation with wiring and component testing, camera calibration and burn-in, and new product line testing.
  • Troubleshoot lower-level technical issues in coordination with RMA and warehouse personnel.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of new technical products and their components and functions in order to train and perform quality assurance prior to sales and maintain related product documentation in the company's shared file system.
  • Attend technician-level tradeshows and industry gatherings, representing AM Signal and vendor partners professionally.
  • Work directly with DOTs, agencies, and contractors to ensure they are proficient and self-sufficient in AM Signal products.
  • Provide customer follow-up and support, including traffic control software programming and testing, and network design, installation, testing, maintenance, and configuration of network software and hardware.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in electronics, traffic signal systems, or a related field preferred.
  • IMSA certification required (Level II preferred; Level I will be considered).
  • Current Flagger Card required.
  • 3 years of experience in traffic signal systems, ITS products, electronics, or related field service work preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle required (mileage/vehicle reimbursement provided for company travel); must maintain a clean driving record with no traffic violations.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% to 50% of the time, with up to 75% travel possible at times (company paid).

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies

  • Working knowledge of traffic signal control devices, ITS products, and related field and network hardware/software.
  • Ability to read and apply technical documentation, product specifications, and installation/testing procedures.
  • Self-starter with strong attention to detail and a customer service orientation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to train and support clients, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Ability to manage documentation, logs, and shared files accurately and consistently.
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting ability across a range of technical products and systems.
  • Professionalism in representing the company and vendor partners at client sites, tradeshows, and industry events.
  • Team collaboration, particularly with warehouses, RMA, sales, and vendor partners.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and use hands and fingers to handle tools, components, and equipment.
  • Frequently lifts and carries equipment, cabinets, and materials up to 50 lbs.; occasionally may lift more with assistance.
  • Frequent driving required, including extended periods of time in a vehicle traveling to clients and job sites throughout the territory.
  • Work is performed in a combination of outdoor field environments (roadways, traffic cabinets, active work zones) and indoor office/warehouse settings, with exposure to varying weather conditions, traffic, and noise.
  • May require climbing, working at heights, or working in or around traffic control cabinets and equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

Salary Range: $130,000 - $140,000
