Position Information Join our team in Traffic Operations as a Transportation Engineer and play a key role in shaping the safety, efficiency, and mobility in the Dallas District. Our team is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating traffic engineering and operations activities that support a safe and efficient transportation system. Key job duties include working on traffic signage programs, reviewing and evaluating traffic impact analyses, managing traffic operations and safety improvement projects, monitoring roadway performance, and ensuring compliance with applicable traffic engineering standards. The successful candidate will provide input into our operation projects and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to implement solutions that enhance mobility, safety, and operational effectiveness across the Dallas District.Annual Salary Range for Each Position Level:Position Title:Salary Grade / Range:Transportation Engineer IIB25: $69,572.00 - $114,099.00 Transportation Engineer IIIB26: $76,530.00 - $129,430.00Transportation Engineer IVB27: $84,182.00 - $142,374.00This position is for a Transportation Engineer II, III or IV. As part of the Traffic Operations team for the Dallas District, the successful candidate would engage in transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, designing, and implementing transportation/traffic operations needs. Employees ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines, and work will require contact with government officials, private entities and/or contractors. Employees at this level assume direct accountability for the work product of themselves.Essential Duties for a Transportation Engineer II, III and IV:Oversees and/or performs traffic engineering studies to recommend solutions for high accident locations, to warrant traffic signals and speed zones and to determine capacity and channelization of the highways.Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Assists in the development, preparation and letting of maintenance contracts for the district.Interprets manuals and required guidelines for traffic operations.Investigates and responds to public complaints on traffic signals, signs, railroad crossings, pavement markings, traffic management systems or other traffic related items.Oversees and/or monitors Community Traffic Safety Programs, activities involving preparation of the District Highway Safety Plan and/or the Traffic Safety Office.Reviews traffic engineering studies, warranting of traffic signals and speed zones.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Additional Duties for a Transportation Engineer III and IV:Coordinates traffic engineering studies and traffic counts.Develops traffic engineering and traffic management system policies, procedures and standards.Responsible for Traffic Engineering operations.Responsible for Traffic Safety operations.Additional Duties for a Transportation Engineer IV:Assists Project Managers to establish realistic and achievable schedule baselines for highly complex projects.Develops short-term and long-term goals and coordinates planning activities and resources required to meet goals.Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.Trains engineering staff.
Minimum Qualifications:Education: Transportation Engineer II, III, and IV - Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.Experience: Transporation Engineer II: 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum QualificationsTransportaion Engineer III: 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). This position requires driving a state vehicle.Licensed Prof Engineer*If performing underwater bridge inspections: Must have Open Water Diver certification.For Bridge Inspection: Must have completed a comprehensive training course based on the Bridge Inspector's Training Manual or NICET Level III or IV certification in Bridge Safety Inspection within (1) year of date of hire. *Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.
