Hourly Pay Rate:$19.75

Schedule:40 hours per week
Job Length:Up to six (6) months

The City of Olathe is seeking Seasonal Traffic Maintenance Workersto perform a variety of labor and semi-skilled maintenance tasks. This position supports street striping, traffic signs, traffic signals, and streetlight maintenance, and includes routine care of assigned equipment. Work is performed under the supervision of theTraffic Control Supervisor. We’re looking for team-oriented individuals who work well as part of a crew, can complete a variety of general labor tasks, and can follow directions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate various vehicles and equipment.
  • Use tools, work aids, and equipment needed to perform assigned work.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Follow all safety procedures, practices, and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Pre-Employment Screenings

Candidates must successfully pass pre-employment screenings, which include:

  • Criminal background check
  • Driving record review
  • Physical
  • Drug screen

Experience:No experience required.

Education:High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance is required.

Licenses & Certifications:A valid driver’s license and a favorable driving record are required.

Environmental / Physical Demands

Work is primarily performed outdoors and involves exposure to weather conditions, which may include extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind Employees may also be exposed to traffic noise, dust, and fumes from vehicles and/or machinery depending on the worksite.

This position involves moderate physical demands, including strength sufficient to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds The work may require bending, kneeling, and reaching, and may include exposure to potentially hazardous tools and equipment. Employees may also need to work in low-light conditions or with glare from headlights.
