Traffic Engineering Consultant – Intelligent Traffic Control Systems (iVRI)

A leading public infrastructure organization in the Netherlands is seeking an experienced traffic engineering consultant to support the implementation and optimization of intelligent traffic control systems (iVRI). This role is part of a technically complex and safety-critical infrastructure project focused on improving smart mobility and traffic management across the Dutch road network.
The consultant will play a key role in defining traffic control objectives, testing and evaluating traffic control applications, supporting operational implementation, and facilitating knowledge transfer to regional Traffic Management Advisors (AVMs).
Key Responsibilities
Define and establish traffic control objectives for new traffic management applications.
Configure and optimize intelligent traffic control systems (IVRI).
Test and evaluate traffic control applications using VAT, FAT, and SAT methodologies.
Assess evacuation times using specialized traffic engineering tools.
Review functional specifications and contribute to the design of new control applications.
Conduct testing, validation, and acceptance activities for traffic applications.
Organize and oversee operational observations and use-case evaluations after commissioning.
Adjust operational settings and parameters based on traffic observations and analysis.
Review delivered technical documentation for completeness and correctness.
Support and advise project teams, stakeholders, suppliers, and regional traffic management units.
Facilitate knowledge transfer and training for regional traffic management advisors (AVMs).
Act as a bridge between existing traffic systems and the transition toward intelligent traffic control environments.
Requirements
Minimum 5 years of experience with:
Drafting traffic control objectives
Testing traffic control applications (VAT/FAT/SAT)
Configuring traffic control systems
Reporting on operational performance
Coordinating with traffic control system suppliers
Minimum 5 years of experience with intelligent traffic control systems (IVRI) and related market developments.
Minimum 5 years of experience within complex government or public-sector organizations.
Demonstrated experience in knowledge transfer and training of traffic engineering professionals.
Strong understanding of traffic control engineering and smart mobility systems.
Professional proficiency in Dutch is required.
