Position Title: Traffic Control Technician (TCT)

Department: Plant

Reports To: General Foreman

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt/Hourly, Full-Time, Benefited

Compensation Range: $22-$26/hour

The Traffic Control Technician (TCT) is responsible for establishing and maintaining safe work zones to protect workers, motorists, and pedestrians. This role involves setting up cones, signage, and safety barriers to direct traffic safely around construction or utility work areas. TCTs must remain constantly aware of surrounding traffic and construction activities while ensuring compliance with all safety regulations. Strong communication skills and the ability to lift up to 40 pounds are required.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week), non-exempt/hourly. Overtime may be required based on operational needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set up, maintain, and remove work zones including warning signs, traffic cones, and rumble strips in accordance with ATSSA and DOT regulations.
  • Load and unload traffic control equipment to and from company vehicles.
  • Drive company vehicles safely to and from job sites.
  • Complete all required documentation and paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Maintain company vehicles in a clean and orderly condition and report any safety concerns or mechanical issues to management.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the day-to-day operations of the department.

Competency:

  • Valid California Driver’s License with a clean DMV record required
  • Must pass a criminal background check prior to employment and maintain eligibility throughout employment.
  • Successful completion of all Sonic safety and job-duty training.
  • Successful completion of the OSHA 10-Hour Construction Course.
  • Must maintain reliable transportation.
  • Must obtain certification in basic traffic safety techniques through training provided by Sonic.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and stand for extended periods of time

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk, and hear. The employee must also walk; use hands to handle tools or equipment; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
