The Division of Traffic Operations is seeking to hire a Traffic Control Inspector, Level 1, for the Signals Timing and Intersection Control Unit. The successful candidate will conduct surveys and studies for traffic signals, All-Way Stop controls, left-turn treatments, and Leading Pedestrian Intervals (LPIs) across all five boroughs.
The candidate will study traffic conditions to identify ways to reduce congestion and crashes and improve the operation of street and transportation facilities. Responsibilities include conducting traffic studies related to conditions, problems, changes, and improvements involving traffic controls, signal operations, safety, access, circulation, vehicular and pedestrian volumes, crash patterns, and speed conditions.
The successful candidate will also make recommendations regarding the need for traffic signs, traffic signals (including modifications), Accessible Pedestrian Signals (APS), street lighting, pavement markings, and other traffic control devices.
Some assignments may require a driver's license. Preference will be given to candidates who possess a driver's license valid in the state of New York. This license must be maintained throughout the duration of appointment in this position.

Requirements for Assignment Level II

full time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above for a total of three years of experience. Such experience must include supervising the regulation of vehicular traffic or the conduct of traffic studies.
Requirements for Assignment Level III
To be considered for assignment to Assignment Level III candidates must have, in addition to meeting the Qualification Requirements above: two additional years of
full time satisfactory experience working in Assignment Levels I and II for a total of four years of experience; or two additional years of full time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above, at least one of which must have been in supervising vehicular traffic regulation and control or in conducting traffic studies.
