Job Description

We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Nottinghamshire to assist with the appointment of a Trading Standards Officer, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay £19.29 - £25.45 per hour

The Trading Standards Officer will undertake complex investigations, provide specialist advice to businesses and consumers, lead multi-agency operations, and deputise for the Team Manager when required. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Trading Standards professional with strong investigative experience and leadership capability.

Responsibilities:

• Enforce Trading Standards legislation through inspections, investigations, targeted projects, and education initiatives.
• Conduct complex criminal and civil investigations, prepare case files, produce reports, and present evidence in court.
• Provide specialist advice to businesses, including acting as a Primary Authority liaison officer where designated.
• Support consumers by resolving complex complaints and preventing future issues through advice and guidance.
• Collect, assess, analyse, and share intelligence in accordance with legal requirements.
• Lead and manage cross-cutting, multi-agency projects, investigations, and enforcement operations.

Qualification:

• Diploma in Trading Standards or
• Diploma in Consumer Affairs and Trading Standards (DCATS) / Diploma in Consumer Affairs (DCA) or
• Stage 2 of the CTSI Professional Competency Framework (Trading Standards Practitioner Diploma).

Essentials

• Significant experience interpreting and applying complex Trading Standards and consumer protection legislation.
• Thorough knowledge of criminal procedures, civil investigations, rules of evidence, disclosure, and enforcement processes.
• Detailed understanding of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (RIPA) and covert investigation techniques.
• Proven experience conducting investigations and presenting evidence in court.
• Full UK Driving Licence
