The Role

Reporting to the Manager of Refined Products, the Trading & Marketing Representative is responsible for assisting in the execution of retail paving asphalt, wholesale asphalt, VGO, and various other refined products purchases and sales for Gibson’s Moose Jaw Refinery. This position will work closely with the other members of the Refined Products team to create and execute on trading and sales strategies that maximize profit for the Refined Products Marketing book.

What You Will Do

As a Trading & Marketing Representative you will play a key role in shaping our workforce by:

  • Identifies, executes, and optimizes sales of retail asphalt, wholesale asphalt, VGO, and other refined products.
  • Collaborates with management to respond to road asphalt tenders, price quotations, and evaluate proposals for profitability growth opportunities.
  • Helps to determine and implement sales and marketing strategies for refined products.
  • Looks for and engages in the growth of new markets for refined products from the Moose Jaw Refinery, including trading and arbitrage opportunities with other refineries and supply partners.
  • Identifies, analyses, and executes on terminaling, storage, or other downstream infrastructure opportunities to add accretive margin to the portfolio.
  • Acts as the main account manager for multiple commodities and develops processes to effectively manage and uphold quality of customer service.
  • Develops strategic relationships with new, and existing customer base, which may include occasional travel in Canada and the United States
  • Negotiate transportation arrangements, develop relationships, and monitor performance of various third-party transportation and storage facilities.
  • Ensures compliance with respect to internal credit and risk policies.
  • Assists Management with preparing, reviewing, and vetting project and proposal economics.
  • Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensures safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Role

  • Possess a university degree in Business, Economics, or related field
  • Minimum 10+ years of related experience
  • Trading and/or origination background in commodities is considered asset
  • Knowledge of North American crude and refined products North American markets considered an asset
  • Demonstrates excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Demonstrates proficiency in MS Office systems
  • Ability to work through complex problems and resolve them in a timely manner
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple deadlines in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to work independently and professionally when executing strategic transactions.
  • Exhibits marketing knowledge of the refined products industry
  • Exhibits an understanding to quickly react to changes in the market
  • Ability to generate income and manage identified risks in a team environment
  • Ability to be self motivated and act as a team player
  • Ability to understand concepts pertaining to asphalt, drilling fluid demand, pricing, and transportation

Working Conditions

  • Requirement to travel up to 15% between Canada and the U.S.

The acquisition strengthens Gibson's cash flow with over 95% of the revenue under take-or-pay contracts with high-quality counterparties.
