Job Description

Performs skilled and semi-skilled electrical installation, testing, maintenance, and repair work across hospital facilities. Ensures the safe, reliable, and continuous operation of electrical systems and equipment that support clinical and non-clinical services, in compliance with applicable safety standards, engineering codes, and healthcare facility requirements.

  • Assembles, installs, tests, maintains, and repairs electrical wiring, systems, equipment, appliances, and fixtures across hospital facilities to ensure continuous and safe operations.
  • Ensures compliance with electrical safety procedures, hospital safety policies, and applicable codes of practice to protect patients, staff, visitors, data, and property.
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning electrical systems, apparatus, and components using appropriate test equipment and hand tools, and carries out corrective actions.
  • Conducts testing and inspection of electrical systems and equipment to evaluate safety, performance, and operational reliability.
  • Performs routine preventive maintenance on electrical equipment to maintain quality, reliability, and performance.
  • Determines causes of operating errors and equipment failures and decides appropriate repair or maintenance actions.
  • Installs electrical equipment, machines, wiring, control devices, and components in accordance with approved specifications and engineering drawings.
  • Connects wires to circuit breakers, switches, panels, control systems, and other electrical components.
  • Determines when maintenance, repair, or replacement is required and reports findings to the supervisor as necessary.
  • Supports emergency operations by assisting with floodlights, generators, UPS systems, and other emergency power activities.
  • Works collaboratively with other maintenance trades, including mechanical, civil, and IT teams, to support integrated facilities operations.
  • Promotes adherence to approved electrical equipment standards, policies, procedures, and safety practices.
  • Maintains tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organised condition.
  • Implements sustainable practices and environmentally responsible methods in Facilities Management operations where applicable.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a healthcare organisation’s maintenance department or similar institution.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, installations, and maintenance practices in healthcare or institutional environments.
  • Knowledge of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), power supplies, generators, and related equipment used for medical and critical systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes of practice, standards, and engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of cross-trade maintenance activities and coordination requirements.
  • Skills in electrical installation, testing, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Skills in using electrical tools, instruments, and testing equipment safely and effectively.
  • Skills in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Skills in basic computer applications for work orders, reporting, and documentation.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary facilities team.
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and urgent maintenance requirements.
  • Ability to follow instructions, prioritise tasks, and meet operational deadlines.
