Rappahannock Community College ( RCC), founded in 1970, provides high-quality educational and training opportunities throughout a 12-county service region an hour east of Richmond on the beautiful western shore of the Chesapeake Bay with access to fresh local seafood and water activities. RCC delivers accessible and affordable educational opportunities, including for-credit transfer and career technical programs, robust distance education coursework, quality dual enrollment courses, and award-winning workforce training and credentialing programs. RCC’s annualized enrollment of 3,700 credit students in 2024-2025 and almost 800 workforce and community development students are supported by almost 140 full-time employees and over 200 part-time/adjunct employees across two main campuses and five satellite sites.

RCC seeks applicants for the position of Trades Technician II to join the buildings and grounds team at the Glenns campus in maintaining a safe, comfortable, and attractive campus environment for our students, faculty, staff and visitors. This position will perform various semi-skilled manual tasks and duties supporting general building facilities maintenance. This includes providing care and maintenance of the college grounds, servicing, repairing, and upkeeping building mechanical, minor electrical, plumbing, interior and exterior furnishings and systems, interior space and system inspection, upkeeping of the campus vehicle fleet, and other duties assigned by the facilities manager. Must be available for occasional evening and weekend work, holidays and overtime depending on college needs, and will serve as essential personnel in the event of college/campus closure due to inclement weather or emergency condition(s).
This is a full-time Trades Technician II position with an excellent benefits package. The hiring salary range is $40,000 – $46,000 and will be commensurate with experience.
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods of times
- Ability to work effectively in a service-oriented environment with a diverse group of employees, students, and visitors to the college campus
- Proven ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve and use sound judgement
- Ability to effectively work in a team or independently
- Ability to effectively communicate and possess basic computer skills and knowledge, including email
- Ability to operate automotive equipment such as golf carts, 1½ ton trucks, zero turn mowers, hauling trailers, etc.
- Ability to effectively operate power and manual hand tools such as hammers, drills, high pressure washers, blowers, assorted lawn equipment, etc.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds and climb ladders up to 12 feet in height
- Valid Virginia driver’s licenses is required

- Previous experience in building trades (Minor electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry)
