Under general supervision, perform installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment across the main campus and off-site locations. Conducts monthly life-safety inspections of emergency lighting systems and completes repairs or replacements as needed. Performs skilled work in building maintenance, renovation, repair, and construction on both routine and emergency bases. Duties include electrical work as well as plumbing, carpentry, masonry, painting, and general maintenance activities. All work is performed in compliance with applicable codes, laws, accepted trade practices, and safety procedures.
A high school diploma or equivalent and formal training or trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment. The area of employment includes experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems. Valid SC driver's license required.
The preferred candidate will have an associate's degree and four (4) years of experience as a journeyman electrician, or a high school diploma and three (3) years of journeyman experience. Technical, trade, military training, or completion of an electrical apprenticeship is preferred. Candidates must have experience working with high-voltage systems and demonstrate knowledge of electrical tools, equipment, materials, methods, and best practices. The position requires the ability to make emergency repairs, read and interpret blueprints and specifications, follow instructions, and plan, direct, and evaluate the work of others. Candidates must be able to work with minimal or no supervision during emergencies, be available for on-call response outside normal work hours, and serve as essential personnel before, during, and after severe weather or other emergencies, including nights and weekends.
