The trading desk manages order and information flows for the Americas regions for both domestic and international portfolio managers. The desk trades fixed income, equity and linked instruments including derivatives, futures, and ETFs on behalf of our client portfolios. The trading desk is responsible for actively covering fund managers with value-added market insight to assist portfolio positioning and management.
What You Will Do
Reporting to the Head Trader Americas, the Senior Trader will be responsible for assisting investors in all aspects of the investment process including investment idea generation and implementation in the Americas markets. The Senior Trader will be responsible for assessing Market Risks and Costs while operating within applicable external and internal regulations and guidelines. Further, they will be expected to partner with FCIM senior management in support strategic firm initiatives, and client engagements. The Senior Trader will provide back up support to the Head of Trading in their department oversight functions as required, and a primary support of critical department functions including Content Creation, Syndication and Execution Technologies.
The Senior Trader will focus on providing the Investment Team with best-in-class market intelligence with the purpose of highlighting Short to Medium Term Portfolio impacts. They are expected to support Fidelity sector analysts in their covered portfolio holdings. This includes but is not limited to identifying - liquidity opportunities, underappreciated micro & macro forces, positioning dynamics, regulatory impacts and cross asset moves.
The Senior Trader will mentor Fidelity staff to ensure consistency of service provided by local and international investment teams and foster the department’s Team Culture. The Senior Trader will proactively partner with internal compliance mgmt., middle office mgmt., and settlements mgmt. to continually examine investment processes to minimize operational risk.
The Senior Trader will develop and manage key industry relationships for Fidelity stakeholders to leverage across businesses. The Senior Trader will work closely with Product Teams and Channel Partners to support the development and launch of product initiatives.
Implementation
Manage credit and equity cash, synthetic and derivative (high and low touch) order flows in line with our Global Best Execution Policy.
Assist mgmt. in the vetting and implementation of emerging execution technologies.
Leverage trade data and technologies to improve department processes, reduce costs and mitigate risk.
Consult Portfolio Managers on optimal trading strategies.
Introduce new investment instrument opportunities for fund management where appropriate.
Support
Work such hours as required for coverage of assigned sectors and oversight responsibilities.
Collaborate with investors and analysts to develop trade ideas.
Collaborate with management to (continuously) assess capabilities, identify platform risks, and process opportunities.
Collaborate with team members and related business partners to assist delivery of business initiatives.
Market Intelligence & Portfolio Impacts
Lead regularly scheduled investment team calls.
Provide original cross asset investor content spanning global investment categories.
Identify potential market impacts due to regulatory changes, underappreciated micro & macro forces, and positioning dynamics.
Understand portfolio construction, client mandates and analyst research to proactively contribute to fund performance.
Regulatory
Adhere to Fidelity Global Trading Policies and Procedures, including MiFiD II obligations.
Assist mgmt. in overseeing investment risk and compliance to foster partnership in trade oversight.
External Relationships
Protect and where possible enhance Fidelity’s reputation in the marketplace.
Develop, manage, and share strategic industry relationships including counterparties, trade groups and technology providers.
What We Are Looking For
University degree or equivalent experience.
A minimum of 15 years of experience in equities and fixed income trading.
A minimum of 15 years of experience in the investment industry, ideally supporting a team of investment professionals.
You have relevant multi-asset trading experience specific to Canadian, US and Latam markets.
You can utilize algorithmic technologies and industry platforms to execute investors cash and derivative order flows.
You can demonstrate an ability to manage relationships, effectively negotiate with industry participants on behalf of the firm.
You can develop, action, and oversee best execution processes relevant to varying market conditions.
You can assess relative value within country and sector opportunities.
You have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a keen interest in the investment process.
You have the credibility, communication skills and professional presence to Mentor Fidelity staff and interact effectively with investment professionals at all levels.
You can manage department priorities, work under pressure, and demonstrate a commitment to Fidelity.
