Job Description

Marshall Land Systems is seeking a Trade Control Specialist to join our team in Ottawa, ON or Moncton, NB. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Commercial and Legal, the Trade Control Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and executing compliance activities related to the import and export of controlled goods across international borders.

In this role, the Trade Control Specialist will ensure that all shipments, transfers, and disclosures whether physical or digital are conducted in full compliance with applicable regulations, including the Controlled Goods Program (CGP), the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and other relevant international export control laws.

Your responsibilities in this role:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on Canadian and international trade control laws and regulations.
  • Obtain and maintain export licenses, including preparing and submitting license applications to relevant government agencies.
  • Complete tasks relating to US export compliance, including preparing Company inputs for DSP5 licenses and Technical Assistance Agreements.
  • Work with US based customers and subcontractors in preparation of US export licenses; request re-export and re-transfer authorizations for US-origin products from the US Departments of State or Commerce.
  • Liaise with different Canadian and foreign government agencies/officials for trade controls related matters as well as with internal stakeholders.
  • Complete export permit reports and submission to Global Affairs Canada.
  • Categorize goods for export according to the Export Control list and maintain the Controlled goods list.
  • Oversee function of shipping and receiving any data, documents or goods requiring export control. Maintain associated corporate data control log.
  • Coordinate with internal departments (e.g., Supply Chain, Engineering, Legal, and Program) to ensure products and technologies are properly classified and licensed.
  • Monitoring, maintaining, and communicating policies and procedures for Canadian, US and other applicable export controls.
  • Remain up to date on changes in trade regulations and communicate updates to internal stakeholders.
  • Implement new and revised corporate export compliance policies and procedures as well as associated training.
  • Assist with investigations and voluntary disclosure related to trade compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Apply if you have most of the following:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in trade compliance, preferable in the defense or aerospace sector.
  • Trade compliance certifications (Certified Customer Specialist, Export Compliance Professional, or equivalent).
  • In-depth knowledge of the Canadian Controlled Goods Program, Import and Export Permits Act, and international trade regulations.
  • Experience with export/import classification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information.

Must be eligible to meet the requirements of export control regulations, including the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and Canadian government security requirements.
