The role is based atDroneShield’scentral Sydney headquarters. Overseas on-the-ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Netherlands, Denmark,Mexicoand Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70countries worldwide.

About the role

The Trade Compliance Officer will be responsible for assisting a comprehensive global trade compliance program ensuring adherence to Australian and international export controls regulations. This role requires expertise in trade regulations and export controls related to goods for both munition and dual-use lists, with a particular focus on Australian regulations.

Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations

  • Support the global trade compliance framework, ensuring alignment between Australian trade and export control requirements and the organisation’s global compliance standards
  • Assist the global trade compliance team with ensuring all import and export activities comply with Australian regulations, while supporting compliance with international export control regimes, including U.S. (ITAR/EAR) and European regulations
  • Act as a regional point of contact for Australia, providing guidance and support to global stakeholders on Australian export controls and regulatory requirements
  • Monitor, interpret and communicate changes in Australian export control and customs regulations to the global trade compliance team, supporting export assessments and implementation activities
  • Assist with export control classifications for goods, technology and software, ensuring classifications are communicated and consistent across global systems and jurisdictions
  • Support the preparation, drafting and submission of export/import permits under the Australian regulatory framework, in coordination with global licensing requirements
  • Maintain accurate record‑keeping and export registers, ensuring documentation meets both Australian and International regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to global trade compliance initiatives, including process improvement, internal controls, training, and audit readiness activities

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master degree in Law, International Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics Management or proven equivalent field experience
  • Minimum 1–2 years’ experience intradecompliance, export controls, customs brokerage or a related regulatory role
  • Experience supporting or working within a multi-jurisdictional or globaltradecomplianceenvironment;
  • Defence or aerospace industry experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Australian export control and customs regulations, with awareness of major international export control regimes
