Te kōwhiringa | The Opportunity
Downer’s Energy & Utilities team is seeking Trade Assistants to join our Electricity Networks crew based in Wiri, Auckland, supporting the Vector electricity distribution and streetlighting network.

Work alongside experienced teams delivering maintenance, construction and fault response across Auckland s network, while learning how electricity networks operate safely and efficiently.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Assisting crews with non electrical civil and mechanical works
  • Supporting electricity distribution and/or streetlighting activities
  • Completing site tasks in line with safety and project requirements
  • Carrying out pre start checks and maintaining plant and equipment
  • Keeping worksites tidy and completing basic job documentation


We offer permanent, full time roles with a guaranteed minimum of 40 hours per week, plus access to overtime, night work, call out and travel allowances.

Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills

Previous experience is helpful but not essential — we’re looking for people with the right attitude and willingness to learn. You’ll be physically fit, comfortable working outdoors in varied conditions, and flexible to work occasional nights or weekends.

You’ll bring:

  • A full Class 1 NZ driver’s licence (Class 2 and WTR endorsements are an advantage)
  • A strong work ethic and reliable, motivated approach
  • A positive attitude and ability to work well in a team environment
  • Commitment to Health & Safety and Zero Harm
  • A genuine interest in building a long term career in utilities or infrastructure.
