To provide advice and support in operational management and to develop, maintain and enhance operational business relationships, through the execution of predefined objectives as per agreed SOPs.

Job Purpose:

  • Delivering exceptional business performance through working as part of a team, which undertakes a wide range of Trade Finance processing and servicing activities.

Key Accountabilities

Business execution and performance (50%)

Transactional processes:

  • Vetting, processing, and verifying both manually and electronically the following trade products as per delegated matrix:
  • Documentary Collections/ Bills- Both import and Export,
  • Documentary Credits/Letters of Credits-Both Import and Export
  • Guarantees- Both Inward and Outward
  • Trade Loans
  • Through the bank approved applications including FCC, FCR, IMEX, PANGEA, MORONGWA, GEMS, TPS, HVPP, OCR, SFI as required
  • Examination of Export and Import documents per the current guidelines of the International Chamber of Commerce and Trade delegated matrix.
  • Upload and completion of document examination for Letters of credit via OCR platform
  • Ensure all title documents are handled as per the bank procedures held under dual control
  • Review of all closed trade transactions to confirm all is in place before filing is done
  • Performing sanctions screening and AML checks as per sanctions policy.
  • Query and complaint resolution within policy specified timelines
  • Ensure all customer instructions and contracts are logged on TMW and actioned as per SLA
  • Ensure all requests are properly authorized and signatures verified and meet the international trade rules before processing.
  • Ensure all errors are captured and resolved within the SLA.
  • Ensure daily reconciliation of liability accounts is done.
  • Ensure income is accurately collected as per current/approved tariff and advise Trade front office team in case of delay.
  • Processing STFC releases within agreed timelines
  • Managing the reporting needs as required by all stakeholders including Finance, FI teams
  • Covering deals with dealers where required
  • Daily actioning of FCC, FCR, QlikView and Jasper reports.
  • Daily actioning of the Incoming Swifts, Failed Swifts, Diaries, memos, Failed Payments, expired deals, pending deals and NOSTRO reports.
  • Updating and follow up on any adverse incidences raised on systems or transactions until resolution.
  • Timely management of UAT testing is required.
  • Ensure Franking of Trade documents as required
  • Approvalverification of deals on Dhamana and EGP platform for government related guarantees.
  • Review and action of failed automated guaranteed commission.
  • Upload, verification and authorization of SFI entries.

Services (20%)

  • Provide a high quality of service to all clients within agreed SLAs
  • Ensure high quality of communication to internal and external clients, both verbal and written.
  • Ensure that all compliments and complaints are logged into the required system.
  • Take ownership when dealing with queries or requests, offer suggestions and conclude constructively by investigating and resolving whilst protecting the bank’s reputation.

Controls (15%)

  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and internal ABSA Policies and Policy Standards. Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role.
  • Ensure adherence to the Group IT security policy and controls in accessing the system
  • Comply with Operational risk and rigor with respect to protecting our people, customers, assets, and the organization.
  • Carry out snap-checks in a timely manner.
  • Ensure adherence to the delegated matrix
  • Timely update and verification of daily activities to ensure correct MI is reporting on the department’s productivity levels.
  • Escalation of risk issues in a timely manner and logging on ORMS
  • Ensure handover processes are adhered to before proceeding on leave: update of the key register; hand over certificate

  • Provide ways and means of challenging the way we have always done our things. Challenge the status quo. Support an empowering climate within the team. Share knowledge, experience, best practice, and provision of constructive feedback as required and when necessary.
  • Support and adopt the implementation of change initiatives.
  • Provide suggestions to the line manager on improvements and solutions based on knowledge of the trade value chain.
  • Provide support to the Team manger ensuring effective teamwork across the Trade Finance.
  • Set own personal development goal objectives and complete all required actions
  • Continuously look for opportunities to further develop own skills and expand knowledge base

Individual Development (5%)

  • Set personal management (PM) objectives in line with the bank strategy and personal aspirations
  • Pursuing self-development to increase personal effectiveness, acknowledge strengths and areas for development.
  • Obtain constant feedback on Personal Development from your line manager and other team leaders
  • Ensure all leave is captured on the relevant system/application -workday before proceeding on leave

Preferred Qualification

  • B-degree/Diploma in banking

Preferred Experience

  • 2 years technical experience

Knowledge and Skills

  • Proficient in internal computer Operating Systems and Applications.
  • Numeric and Analytical skills.
  • Team working skills
  • Interpersonal skills: enthusiastic and diligence
  • Trade products knowledge.
  • Knowledge of the International Trade Rules governing Trade Finance.
