GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Park Manager and daily supervision of the Lead Ranger, this position performs highly complex (senior-level) construction, restoration, renovation, and maintenance work. Responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of park facilities, grounds, equipment operations and visitor services for Pedernales Falls State Park. Performs routine preventative maintenance (cleaning/inspection) of facilities, grounds and equipment. Serves as the Back-Up Utility Plant Operator (UPO) and assists in the operation, maintenance and repairs to the Water/Wastewater Distribution System.Responsible for regulatory compliance in all utility operations and completion of required reports and laboratory testing as required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.Operates all types of equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers and power tools.Provides information to park visitors and general public. Assists in enforcing park rules and regulations, performs resource management tasks and interprets the parks natural resources.Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.Performs additional duties as assigned.Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Graduation from High School or GED.
Experience:
Four years facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience.
Licensure:
Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid state driver's license.
Must possess or be able to obtain, within one year of employment, a class "D" Water and Wastewater license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Must possess or be able to obtain, within two years of employment, a Class “C” Surface Water license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license and compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s (TCEQ) Criminal Conviction Guidelines.
ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:
Experience:
Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience:
Experience in building and facility repair techniques such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical or mechanical.
Experience working with the public.
Experience working with water and wastewater systems.
Licensure:
Current Class "D" Water and Wastewater license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
Current Class “C” Water and Wastewater license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use.
Required to work 40 hours per week, includes flexible schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.
Required to respond emergencies and on-call situations.
Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
Required to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.
May be required to operate a State vehicle.
Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.
Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.
Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
