TPP Regional Planning Data Analyst III, IV, or V - TPP Division - Austin, TX-(2601966)
Position Information

The Transportation Planning and Programming Division is seeking a Regional Planning Data Analyst. This position performs moderately complex data analysis and research in support of traffic forecasting and regional transportation planning activities, including coordination with TxDOT Districts and Metropolitan Planning Organizations.

Responsibilities include developing reports, dashboards, and data visualizations/tools; ensuring data quality through validation and monitoring; and supporting improvements to data workflows and processes. Provides opportunities for professional development and training, and participation in statewide transportation initiatives. Work involves the use of advanced data tools, dashboard development, Power Platform Workflows, and evolving analytical methods.

Data Analyst IV - B24 - Salary Range $85,000.00 - $95,000.00
Data Analyst V - B26 - Salary Range $95,000.00 - $105,000.00

Data Analyst III:
Performs moderately complex data analysis and data research work. Work involves conducting detailed analysis and extensive
research on data and providing results in various formats. Monitors and implements measures to ensure data quality. Responsible
for using standard statistical tools, methods and techniques to translate data into actionable insights using data visualization
software. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Data Analyst IV:
Performs complex data analysis and data research work. Work involves conducting detailed analysis and extensive research on data and providing results in various formats. Monitors and implements measures to ensure data quality. Responsible for using standard statistical tools, methods and techniques to translate data into actionable insights using data visualization software. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Data Analyst V:
Performs highly complex data analysis and data research work. Work involves conducting detailed analysis and extensive research on data and providing results in various formats. Monitors and implements measures to ensure data quality. Responsible for using standard statistical tools, methods and techniques to translate data into actionable insights using data visualization software. Works under limited supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Essential Duties:

Data Analyst III:

  • Participates in data visualization tool system administration monitoring and upgrades.
  • Identifies and interprets data patterns and trends and assesses data quality.
  • Develops reports, dashboards and interactive visualizations using different components of Tableau software including Tableau desktop, Tableau Prep, and Tableau server.
  • Accesses information from business organization cross-sections to make good business decisions and provide excellent customer service.
  • Compiles and queries data.
  • Analyzes data using standard statistical tools, methods, and techniques
  • Interprets results to identify significant differences in data.
  • Cleans and prunes data to discard irrelevant information.
  • Assists in defining, developing, and implementing data standards.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Data Analyst IV:

All of the above and:

  • Identifies data gaps, errors, anomalies, inconsistencies, and redundancies by analyzing the content, structure, and relationships within data.
  • Performs quality assurance and serves as a subject matter expert on data integrity, extraction, and compilation.
  • Manages and maintains the Tableau Server and Desktop Developer environment.

Data Analyst V:

All of the above and:

  • Develops software applications or programming to use for statistical modeling and graphic analysis.
  • Develops and implements databases, data collection systems, data analytics, and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.

Experience:

  • 2 years of experience in data analysis, research, compilation, and/or report writing and design work experience.

  • Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent.

  • Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Data Analyst IV:

Education:

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience in data analysis, research, compilation, and/or report writing and design work experience.

  • Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent.

  • Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Data Analyst V:

Education:

Experience:

  • 4 years of experience in data analysis, research, compilation, and/or report writing and design work experience.

  • Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent.

  • Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Preferred Qualifications:

Strong understanding of traffic forecasting and data analytics, with proficiency in Microsoft Power BI and Power Platform. Experience with machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques is desirable. Familiarity with MPO planning is preferred.
