Senior Laboratory Engineer / Assistant Manager – Toy Safety (Electrical & Mechanical)

The Opportunity

We are recruiting on behalf of an international testing and safety organisation for a Senior Laboratory Engineer / Assistant Manager to join its toy testing laboratory in Hong Kong.

This hands-on role combines electrical and mechanical safety testing with laboratory quality assurance and accreditation support. At Assistant Manager level, you will supervise one team member and help coordinate daily laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct and oversee electrical, physical, mechanical and flammability testing for toys and juvenile products, with related consumer product testing as required.
• Carry out testing against applicable international standards, including EN 62115 / IEC 62115, EN 71, ASTM F963 and ISO 8124.
• Interpret test requirements, assess results and investigate product safety concerns or non-compliance.
• Prepare and review accurate technical reports and maintain complete testing records.
• Support ISO/IEC 17025 and HOKLAS accreditation requirements, including audits, document control and corrective actions.
• Develop and update standard operating procedures, test methods and laboratory work instructions.
• Ensure testing equipment is correctly operated, maintained and calibrated.
• Coordinate testing schedules and provide technical support to internal teams.
• At Assistant Manager level, supervise and coach one team member, monitoring work quality and turnaround times.

Requirements

• Higher Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline.
• Typically 2–5 years of relevant hands-on experience in a testing laboratory, with more experienced candidates welcome.
• Strong technical capability in electrical safety testing, ideally covering toys, juvenile products or consumer electronics.
• Working knowledge of EN 62115 / IEC 62115 and/or ISO/IEC 17025, with an understanding of HOKLAS laboratory accreditation requirements.
• Experience in physical, mechanical and flammability testing, and familiarity with relevant international toy safety standards.
• Ability to interpret standards, operate laboratory equipment, troubleshoot technical issues and prepare clear reports.
• Good command of English and either Cantonese or Mandarin.
• Previous supervisory or mentoring experience is an advantage for Assistant Manager consideration.
