The Elementary TOSA Dean will be responsible for maximizing student learning at the assigned school under the supervision of the building principal. Elementary TOSA Deans are expected to mentor and model effective procedures for the operation and functioning of the school consistent with the philosophy, mission, values, goals and strategic plan of the school district. This includes instructional programs, discipline systems, assessments, and supporting building operations that ensure a safe and orderly climate with implemented emergency procedures. Elementary TOSA Deans shall be responsible for functions assigned by the Principal.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS May Include:

  1. Assist the principal as directed in the overall operation of the school and serve as a building instructional leader supporting a culture focused on learning and continuous improvement.
  2. Assist the principal with MTSS implementation, supporting teachers, and implementing behavioral strategies.
  3. Establish a professional rapport with students and staff.
  4. Proactively address student social-emotional needs, provide mentorship, and lead efforts to create a welcoming, equitable school community.
  5. Develop and implement school-wide behavior expectations, manage discipline referrals, and lead academic and social behavior initiatives to improve behavior.
  6. Serve as a liaison between families, teachers, and administration to support student needs, including participating in IEP and parent meetings.
  7. Work with staff to improve student learning and achievement.
  8. Participate in professional development workshops, activities and seminars.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):

Required:

  1. Current Minnesota Teaching License, School counseling license, school social work license or other education license.
  2. At least 5 years teaching experience or related experience.
  3. Advocate and supporter of public education and a comprehensive school experience.
  4. Proven expertise and commitment to best practices and continuous improvement.
  5. Strong skills in communication, problem-solving and public and interpersonal relations.
  6. Possess exemplary professional ethics and personal integrity.
  7. Technologically proficient.
  8. Prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
  9. Communicates with students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.
  10. Demonstrates an appreciation of diversity in all interactions and job functions.

Desired:

  1. Certified as a Principal in the State of Minnesota or enrolled in a program to obtain certification.
  2. Significant public school experience with a large and diverse educational organization.
  3. Ability to facilitate groups towards a common goal.
