We are seeking an experienced Toolmaker to support precision machining and tooling activities at the Pantex Plant. This position is responsible for the construction, modification, and repair of tooling, gages, jigs, fixtures, dies, and precision components using conventional and computer numerical controlled (CNC) machine tools. The Toolmaker will work from engineering drawings, sketches, and technical instructions to perform complex machining operations requiring a high degree of accuracy and specialized craft knowledge.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate conventional and CNC precision machine tools to construct, modify, and repair tooling, gages, jigs, fixtures, dies, and related components.
  • Plan and perform complex machining operations from sketches, detailed drawings, assembly drawings, and verbal instructions.
  • Perform complicated machine setups and produce components to specified dimensions, shapes, and tolerances.
  • Use precision measuring instruments, specialized tooling, and gages to verify dimensional accuracy and quality.
  • Perform mathematical calculations and write or edit programs for CNC equipment as required.
  • Maintain accurate work records and ensure proper operation and maintenance of equipment, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Participate in work planning activities to identify hazards, establish controls, and support safe execution of work.
  • Follow applicable safety, security, DOE, site, and operating requirements.
  • Complete required training and maintain qualifications necessary to perform assigned work.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent meeting applicable DOE O 426.2 requirements.
  • Completion of an approved 8,000-hour Toolmaker, Tool and Die, or comparable apprenticeship or trainee program; or at least four years of directly related Tool and Die Shop experience acceptable to management.
  • Demonstrated experience with conventional and CNC machining equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret sketches, detailed drawings, assembly drawings, technical instructions, and machining specifications.
  • Experience performing complex setups and precision machining to specified tolerances.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments, tooling, and gages.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations and write and/or edit CNC programs.
  • Knowledge of proper machine operation, tooling practices, equipment maintenance, and shop safety requirements.
  • Ability to perform the physical and functional requirements associated with precision machining and toolmaking work.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Human Reliability Program (HRP) certification as required.

Travel Minimal travel is anticipated.

Compensation & Benefits:

The expected base salary range for this role is $100-120,000 USD per year. Actual compensation will be determined based on a number of factors including skills, experience, qualifications, and location.
