Job Description

Overview

The Tooling Technician is responsible for improving tooling and existing processes through troubleshooting, new tooling design, and new method implementations. In addition, the incumbent tracks tooling inventories and tooling calibrations to ensure constant audit readiness.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions (To perform within this position successfully, the incumbent must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Provides ongoing support to production and facilities working on production to design jigs, fixtures, and tooling for various projects
  • Attends meetings (Quality, Tooling, New Launch, Assembly Trials, etc.) to develop tooling new requirements
  • Maintains inventory and tracking of all tooling for the Module Production Department
  • Maintains and tracks tooling calibrations to include records keeping for each tool
  • Monitors and maintains workstation assembly equipment and tooling
  • Operates basic machining, welding, and assembly equipment
  • Maintains, organizes, and orders tooling parts
  • Modifies production tools according to Engineering Change Orders, New Launch, etc.
  • Develops new tooling systems for production use
  • Makes improvements to current tooling already in production use
  • Creates and maintains processes that meet or exceed engineering and TS16949 standards
  • Troubleshoots and resolves tooling problems with tooling coordinators
  • Sets up and maintains documentation for tracking or graphing tooling issues
  • Assists management in developing standard work processes for hourly module tooling coordinators, ensures safety and industry standards are met
  • Responds to and resolves tooling issues in the module assembly logistics areas to reduce, eliminate, and mitigate line down time and or safety issues
  • Inspects assigned machinery to ensure compliance with company safety and industry standards
  • Assists in training, coaching, and mentoring hourly Tooling Coordinators
  • Maintains organization and departmental housekeeping according to company standards
  • All other job duties as assigned

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required and preferred for this position.)

Required Education & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in manufacturing tooling

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Ability to interpret and implement engineering change orders
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve tooling issues and concerns
  • Ability to design jigs, fixtures, and process improvement tooling
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques
  • Knowledge of manufacturing technology and trends
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Three (3) or more years of tooling experience a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to program DC Nutrunner Systems [Atlas Copco, Desoutter, Ingersoll Rand, etc.]
  • Welding experience

  • Lifting 40-45 lbs.
  • Climbing ladders & working overhead
  • Shift: 7AM ~ 5PM, Overtime as needed
  • 50% office, 50% production floor
  • Some travel as needed
