The GE Appliances Tooling Engineer - Metals will be a member of the Metal Stamping Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) team. The Metal Stamping AME Team owns and maintains the engineering standards for metal stamping tooling and equipment for the company. The engineer will be responsible for assisting and supporting the management and execution of tooling and metal stamping equipment projects, helping to ensure that all tooling and equipment are compliant with standards and executed within the project or program deliverables (safety, cost, quality and delivery). At times, the engineer will be assigned to New Product Introduction (NPI) programs or to product lines projects to drive product cost out and factory productivity. The engineer will be a key liaison between the Metals project team and the plant operation and manufacturing teams; ensuring that plant and project priorities and objectives are clearly understood and considered for the area under their ownership.

How You'll Create Possibilities

  • Utilize the ARGUS system to analyze drawn metal stamp parts.
  • Support metal stamping tooling and equipment procurement projects in partnership with senior/principal tooling and advanced development engineers
  • Assist with project management, specification development using GE Appliances standards, supplier selection, early supplier engagement, and technical reviews
  • Support factory layout development and the installation, qualification, and startup of safe, high‑quality, cost‑effective tooling and equipment
  • Ensure tooling and equipment are safe, reliable, robust, and designed to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
  • Assist with auditing tooling and equipment suppliers to ensure compliance with GE Appliances requirements and standards
  • Coordinate process development between part design engineers and Die Engineering to deliver a robust Die Operational Lineup (DOL)
  • Support program metrics including manufacturing labor (VLOH), tooling and equipment budgets, and part quality; perform trade‑off analyses as needed
  • Facilitate or lead the Production Preparation Process (3P) to develop right‑sized, lean manufacturing tooling, equipment, and processes
  • Ensure all tooling and equipment comply with applicable Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) standards
  • Apply Human Organizational Performance (HOP) principles to prioritize operator health and safety
  • Partner with functional leaders to support Bill of Process (BoP), Lean Manufacturing, Ergonomics, and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) initiatives

What You'll Bring to Our Team

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline
  • 3+ years’ experience with tooling procurement & sheet metal die design concepts, die components and applications

Desired Characteristics:

  • GE Appliances’ program graduate (SCDP, AEDP or other) strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity in 3D CAD strongly preferred.
  • Digital engineering and GD&T experience (Geometric Tolerance and Technology) strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work in large cross-functional teams and at multiple levels in the organization (both salaried and shop floor operators / skilled trades team members).
  • Experience with implementing Lean process improvement in a manufacturing operation.

Working Conditions:

  • This position may require domestic and international travel for about 15% of the time.
  • This position is primarily based in Louisville, KY, but requires travel to other locations as needed. The primary work schedule is the 1st shift; however, occasional support during weekends, 2nd, and 3rd shifts may be necessary.
  • Working conditions are normal for a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Work may involve lifting materials and products up to 30 pounds and working in and around heavy equipment.
  • Working in this environment requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to, eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hard hats.
  • These roles require frequent walking in a manufacturing plant environment.
