Job Description
The Tool Repair Specialist is essential to the Centralized Tool Ordering & Maintenance (CTOM) program. One of the program's missions is strategically repairing tooling and equipment based on the asset management strategy and at a low cost for PTL locations. This position will be able to deliver on that by being the Subject Matter Expert in high-quality diagnosis and repair procedures and giving back to the location a reliable, high-quality tool within a few days because of that knowledge and strategic parts purchasing.
Their primary responsibility is to perform a consistent diagnosis process on the tools that come in, execute the correct asset management strategy to repair, refurbish, salvage, or prep for sale, and document the completed steps within the tracker and asset management system. With this position, Centralized Tool Ordering & Maintenance (CTOM) can flow or operate to meet multiple missions.
Major Responsibilities:
Tooling Repair:
- In accordance with the asset management strategy, repair, refurbish, salvage for parts, or prep for sale all shop equipment and tools that come to the Tool Repair Center.
- Document what was completed by serial number within Smartsheet and the Asset Management system to ensure accuracy, billing, and the overall outcome of the tool within the Penske environment.
Tooling Quality Control:
- Inspect and test tools and equipment after they are received and prior to shipping to ensure there is no physical damage or failure that may prevent them from functioning properly.
- Perform necessary research to identify and document all failure modes, hidden damage, and failures using proper diagnosis and functional testing.
Tool Kit Assembly:
- Build and assemble specialized equipment and tool kits following a Build of Materials (BoM) sheet and documented procedure. Sign off on completion and prepare items for inventory.
Maintain a Lean/5S environment:
- Ensure a clean and safe warehouse environment, utilizing the 5S methodology. They are primarily responsible for ensuring their tools and workspace are kept orderly so they can perform the work daily.
- The associate will maintain a clean workstation, mitigating fluid, grease, dust, or other shop buildup on all surfaces each day. The associate will apply the 5S and Lean methodology to their workstation/work area.
Data Entry
- The associate will use a computer frequently during the day to enter data and document their decisions.
- The associate will be required to document all quality tests and measurements via Salesforce. Data entry is prone to human error, so the associate will be required to be vigilant in their accuracy and efficiency.
Other projects and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Automotive Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance preferred. If no degree, equivalent work experience is required.
- Minimum 2 years experience in Vehicle, General or Industrial Maintenance experience required in lieu of Degree.
- Minimum 2 years experience in Maintenance Technician, Tooling Support Coordinator, DPF Quality Specialist I or Maintenance Coordinator experience or Mechanical experience in industrial equipment, automotive or trucking industry (preferred).
- Mechanical experience to identify root cause failure of shop equipment and tools.
- Mechanical experience to make a high quality, manufacture approved repair of shop equipment and tools.
- Ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting.
- Ability to easily multi-task and ensure 100% accuracy (between tasks, answering phones/emails and other tasks).
- Ability to understand financial implications based on decisions made.
- Ability to train, coach and mentor new teams members on procedures and standards.
- Great written and verbal communication and ability to explain the root cause and what was done to complete a repair.
- Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
- Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required.
