Job Description

As tool designer, you will prepare designs and fabrication drawings of tools, fixtures, jigs and templates to support MCI manufacturing efforts. Also, you will review work requests, estimate project duration, determine material, hardware, and best suitable manufacturing method for each project to ensure tool design and functionality objectives are met with cost effectiveness, safety, and quality in mind.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Preparation of tool design concepts for review by project stakeholders.
  • Conduct tool design review meetings.
  • Visit Carfair Industries and NFI plants to provide tooling support.
  • Preparation of tool designs and their fabrication drawings using Solid Works design software.
  • Review of revisions made to production engineering drawings for tooling requirements.
  • Ensure that all completed manufacturing drawings meet drafting standards.
  • Documentation or revision of existing tool designs.
  • Archiving and revision control of existing tool drawings.
  • Preparation of quotation packages and preparation of tool fabrication support files (.STEP, .DXF, etc.)
  • Participate and adhere to departmental and company standards.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • An Engineering Technologist or Technician with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment or equivalent is preferred.
  • Enthusiastic, comfortable working as a part of a team, as well as able to work alone.
  • Excellent communication skills with cross-functional teams (Production workers, Technicians, Technologists, Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, Vendors).
  • Strong work ethic, dependable and willing to continuously learn.
  • Knowledge of design applications: Solid Works (preferred), Unigraphics or other 3D design software.
  • Good understanding of machining and fabrication methods used in heavy manufacturing environments.
  • Experience in drafting and blueprint reading.
  • Previous Product Design, Tooling Design, or Manufacturing Engineering experience is an asset.
