Direct Report: Tooling Supervisors
1.0 PURPOSE: Support manufacturing operations by fabricating, maintaining, and restoring precision tooling and dies to exact specifications, ensuring optimal tool performance, product quality, and production efficiency.
2.0 RESPONSIBILITIES, including but not limited to:
2.1 Use caution and support facility systems to assure safety event free facilities.
2.2 Respond to any emergency or potential emergency following established procedures.
2.3 Observe, respond and report any instance of product, service, or quality systems non-conformity.
2.4 Security diligence: maintain control of key cards, prevent unauthorized entry to facilities by non-Berry employees, and proper
maintenance / security of Berry equipment.
2.5 Successfully complete Primary Duties as outlined in 4.0 and associated training.
3.0 AUTHORITIES, including but not limited to:
3.1 Pause activity and notify Safety lead in any facility regarding instances of potentially unsafe work environments or employee and
supplier practices.
3.2 Initiate action to prevent occurrences of any non-conformity of product, service or quality systems.
3.3 Initiate, recommend or provide solutions through designated channels.
3.4 Suggest actions for continual improvement to products, processes, facilities or systems and verify the implementation of solutions.
4.0 PRIMARY DUTIES, including but not limited to:
4.1 Set up and operate precision grinding equipment, including surface grinders, cylindrical grinders, jig grinders, and related machinery.
4.2 Grind, sharpen, repair, and finish tooling, dies, molds, fixtures, and production components to required specifications and tolerances.
4.3 Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T requirements, and work instructions.
4.4 Measure and inspect finished components using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauge blocks, and optical comparators.
4.5 Perform tool and die maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs to support production requirements.
4.6 Maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish requirements while adhering to established quality standards.
4.7 Select appropriate grinding wheels, speeds, feeds, and tooling based on material and product specifications.
4.8 Verify completed work meets quality requirements and document inspection results as required.
4.9 Collaborate with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to resolve tooling and production issues.
5.0 QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION REQUIRED:
5.1 High school diploma or GED required.
5.2 Technical training, apprenticeship, or vocational education in tool and die making, machining, or a related field preferred.
5.3 Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in tool and die grinding, precision machining, or a related manufacturing environment.
5.4 Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
5.5 Strong knowledge of grinding techniques, tooling materials, and machining processes.
5.6 Experience using precision measurement and inspection equipment.
5.7 Ability to work with extremely close tolerances and maintain high levels of accuracy.
5.8 Basic math skills, including geometry and trigonometry related to machining applications.
5.9 Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
