Tooele County School District Fleet Manager
Job Summary
The White Fleet & Yellow Fleet Manager oversees the strategic operations, maintenance, safety, and compliance of Tooele County School District's comprehensive transportation and utility inventory. This includes school buses (Yellow Fleet) dedicated to safe student transit, support vehicles (White Fleet) used by district departments, and a specialized fleet of All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs/UTVs) utilized for grounds maintenance, campus security, and facility operations.
The manager ensures maximum fleet availability, strict adherence to state and federal safety regulations, efficient budget management, and training.
Key Responsibilities
- Fleet Operations & Logistics
- White Fleet Allocation: Manage the deployment, tracking, and utilization of the white fleet vehicles across various district departments (Maintenance, IT, Nutrition Services, and Administration).
- Asset Lifecycle Management: Manage vehicle and equipment lifecycles from procurement, to outfitting and maintenance to decommissioning and public auction/surplus processes.
- Manage the fuel management program to ensure efficient use and monitoring for abuse.
- Oversee vehicle registration and insurance requirements on all fleet vehicles.
- Maintenance
- Preventive Maintenance (PM): Establish and enforce PM schedules for all asset classes (diesel buses, gasoline/hybrid support vehicles, and small-engine ATVs) to minimize downtime and maximize resale value.
- Maintain and track vehicle factory recalls and warranty repairs.
- Safety, Compliance, and Training
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure 100% compliance with Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) regulations, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) guidelines, and state pupil transportation standards.
- Inspections: Prepare the yellow fleet for mandatory Utah Highway Patrol inspections and maintain documentation.
- Driver & Operator Safety: Collaborate with training staff to ensure all bus drivers hold valid CDLs with proper endorsements. Implement safe-operating policies and training programs for staff operating white fleet vehicles and ATVs. Oversee insurance claims and accident reporting.

Qualifications & Skills
Education & Experience
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and 5+ years of progressive leadership experience in fleet management.
- Preferred: Experience managing a diverse portfolio within a public school district or municipal setting, including heavy diesel, standard automotive, and utility/power equipment.
Certifications & Licenses
- Required: Valid Utah Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Preferred: Certified Fleet Manager (CFM) or Certified Public Fleet Professional (CPFP) designation.
Knowledge & Abilities
- Proficiency in fleet management software, asset tracking tools, and routing applications.
- Excellent organization, interpersonal, and communication skills to effectively collaborate with school principals, district leadership, grounds crews, and community stakeholders.
Contract:
Full time, 12-month employee, 260 Days
District Administrative Salary Schedule
Benefit Eligible
12 days sick leave, 10 days annual leave per fiscal year.
