We are looking for a Toll Equipment Technician III to serve as the lead technical expert responsible for advanced diagnostics, installation, maintenance, and support of toll collection equipment and integrated systems. This position will troubleshoot complex system issues, provide technical leadership and training to technicians, and support the reliability and performance of tolling infrastructure. This position will be a full-time contract, and onsite in Portage, IN.
What You'll Do
Serve as the technical lead and escalation point for complex toll equipment and system issues
Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis across integrated tolling, networking, server, and software systems
Install, configure, maintain, and repair toll collection equipment, lane controllers, networking devices, CCTV systems, and RF equipment
Perform advanced hardware installations, cable terminations, and system upgrades involving coaxial, CAT5, and fiber optic cabling
Configure and troubleshoot Windows, Unix, and Linux-based tolling systems and network devices
Interpret wiring schematics, network diagrams, and system architecture documentation to support maintenance and upgrades
Develop and oversee preventative maintenance programs to maximize equipment performance and minimize downtime
Train and mentor technicians on advanced troubleshooting techniques, new equipment, and operational procedures
Support installation, testing, and commissioning activities for new and existing tolling sites
Manage inventory and recommend spare parts requirements based on maintenance trends and failure analysis
Maintain accurate documentation in incident management and inventory management systems
Participate in project initiatives, system improvement efforts, and technical team meetings
Participate in after-hours on-call rotation and respond to critical system issues as required
Perform other duties as assigned
What You'll Need
Required:
Associate's degree in Information Systems Technology, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience in electronic equipment maintenance, toll systems, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), or a related technical field
Advanced knowledge of electronic systems, computer networks, network protocols, and computer hardware repair
Advanced knowledge of fiber optic systems, testing, and troubleshooting
Advanced knowledge of radio frequency (RF) systems and antenna technologies
Advanced knowledge of CCTV systems, video management platforms, and IP camera systems
Knowledge of SCADA systems and industrial control systems
Ability to read and interpret complex wiring diagrams, schematics, network topology diagrams, and technical documentation
Experience troubleshooting integrated hardware, software, and networking environments
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong leadership, mentoring, and technical training abilities
Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively across departments
Valid driver's license with the ability to maintain driving privileges
Ability to work assigned shifts and participate in an emergency on-call rotation
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to work at heights up to 30 feet
Preferred:
Bachelor's degree in Information Systems Technology, Electronics, Computer Science, or a related discipline
Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent technical certifications
Fiber optic certification
Experience with toll collection systems, revenue collection equipment, or other complex automated transportation systems
Experience leading technical projects and mentoring technical staff
Experience with facilities maintenance and environmental monitoring systems
Physical Demands
Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards
Ability to work at heights up to 30 feet
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Ability to operate electronic diagnostic and testing equipment
Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, climb, and move throughout toll facilities and equipment locations
Ability to conduct repetitive computer-based tasks using a keyboard, mouse, and monitor

$31.40 per hour
The pay range for this position is listed above. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education. Benefit packages include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as 401k retirement account access. Employees in this role may also be entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
