Qualifications

  • Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred
  • Three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Experience working with student behavior interventions, restorative practices, PBIS, or alternative education programs preferred

Purpose
The Teacher on Assignment (TOA) for Student Discipline provides leadership and support in the implementation of student behavior interventions, discipline systems, and social-emotional supports. The position serves as a liaison among students, families, teachers, counselors, and administrators to promote positive student behavior, improve school climate, and support academic success. The TOA also provides academic supervision and instructional support for students assigned to alternative or disciplinary placements.

Responsibilities and Requirements
STUDENT DISCIPLINE AND INTERVENTION

  • Organize, implement, and monitor a fair, consistent student discipline system aligned with district policies and procedures.
  • Process student discipline referrals and coordinate behavioral interventions.
  • Monitor student discipline trends, generate reports, and analyze behavior data to support decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate restorative practices, conflict resolution, behavior contracts, and problem-solving strategies with students.
  • Assist with investigations and documentation related to student misconduct.
  • Participate in manifestation determination meetings, disciplinary hearings, parent conferences, and other meetings related to student success and behavior.
  • Coordinate interventions for students with attendance, behavior, and social-emotional concerns.

CURRICULUM AND INSTRUCTION

  • Maintain lesson plans and instructional activities aligned to district curriculum.
  • Communicate clear learning objectives and expectations to students.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure continuity of instruction and student success.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of PBIS lessons, behavioral supports, and student success initiatives.
  • Support co-curricular programs and activities that promote positive student engagement and school connectedness.

STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

  • Identify and refer students demonstrating academic, behavioral, attendance, or social-emotional concerns to appropriate support personnel.
  • Collaborate with counselors, psychologists, and school resource officers.
  • Facilitate student groups and educational activities focused on problem solving, communication skills, conflict resolution, decision-making, and anger management.
  • Monitor student academic and behavioral progress and maintain required documentation.
  • Support implementation of interventions designed to improve student engagement, attendance, and achievement.


STAFF COLLABORATION

  • Serve as a resource to teachers and staff regarding classroom management, student behavior interventions, and discipline procedures.
  • Collaborate with administration to promote consistent implementation of discipline policies and procedures.
  • Assist with staff training related to PBIS, restorative practices, student behavior, supervision, and campus safety.
  • Attend staff meetings, district professional development, and committee meetings as assigned.
  • Participate as a collaborative member of the school leadership team to support school improvement goals.

CAMPUS SUPERVISION AND SAFETY

  • Assist with supervision of students before, during, and after school activities.
  • Support the assignment and coordination of supervision duties related to student safety.
  • Participate in emergency drills, crisis response activities, and safety procedures.
  • Assist administration in maintaining a safe and orderly campus environment.
  • Participate on school safety committees and provide recommendations regarding school safety and emergency operations procedures.

SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS

  • Maintain effective communication with students, parents, staff, and community partners regarding student behavior and progress.
  • Conduct parent conferences and family meetings to address student concerns and establish support plans.
  • Interpret school policies, programs, and expectations to students and families.
  • Collaborate with district schools and programs to support continuity of discipline practices and student transitions.

OPERATIONS

  • Maintain accurate records related to student discipline, attendance, interventions, and academic progress.
  • Follow district policies, administrative regulations, and state and federal requirements.
  • Account for district property and materials as required.
  • Report needed repairs, safety concerns, injuries, and incidents promptly.
  • Complete assigned duties and responsibilities in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Principal.
