BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY

Performs highly advanced (senior-level) inventory and property maintenance duties. Work involves warehouse and building maintenance such as inspecting, repairing and coordinating with Construction and Facilities Management Office (CFMO) and vendors for the care and maintenance of buildings and structures used by the TXSG. Work also involves receiving, inventorying, and stocking equipment and supplies; and keeping accurate inventory and property records. This position supports the Texas State Guard (TXSG), reports to the Texas State Guard’s Deputy T4 and works under limited supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

WORK HOURS: Monday – Friday, 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintains records and accountability of TXSG buildings, assigned property, maintenance tools and equipment, and other materials and supplies.
  • Assists in ordering parts, materials, and equipment and maintaining up-to-date inventory reports.
  • Inspectspropertiestoensurethey are safe and determinestheneedformaintenanceor repairs.
  • Maintainsrecordsofpropertyagreements,generalmaintenance,majorrepairs,andremodeling or construction projects.
  • Receives and maintains records of purchases and assigns inventory numbers and tags items as required.
  • Coordinates and schedules minor building repairs and other maintenance projects.
  • Plans,schedules,manages,monitors,andcoordinatesgeneralmaintenance,majorrepairs,and remodeling or construction projects.
  • Diagnoses and repairs various appliances, tools, and equipment.
  • Keeps customers informed about repairs and maintenance status of equipment.
  • Prepares and submits accurate, legible reports and work orders.
  • Performsrelatedworkasassigned.
  • Attends work regularly and observes approved work hours in accordance with agency state employee policies & procedures handbook.
  • May be required to perform duty in support of national emergencies, disasters, and other missions, to include on holidays and weekends.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

EDUCATION:

  • Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Four (4) years of experience in inventory or property management is required.
  • Experience in general maintenance is required. (i.e. repairs, painting, replacing light bulbs, assembling equipment, etc.)
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and Word is required.

REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE:

  • A valid driver’s license is required. *If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident. A satisfactory driving record is required to drive state or personal vehicles to conduct agency business.
  • A valid Forklift Operators Certificate or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire is required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Membership in the Texas State Guard is required. You must be a current member or eligible to join upon employment by TMD. You must also be qualified for entry into or continued service in the Texas State Guard in accordance with all applicable regulatory policies. The State Guard does not deploy outside the State of Texas.
  • Must be able to meet certain physical requirements as identified by the position being selected.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (speak, read, and write) in English is required.
  • Background Investigation. Selected candidate must pass a federal security background investigation. Th process includes a National Agency Check and Inquiry (NACI) and fingerprinting. New employees must complete and sign the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Form SF85. Completed forms are submitted to the OPM for the background investigations.
  • Eligibility to Work in the U.S. The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 requires all new employees to present proof of eligibility to work in the United States within three (3) days of being hired. The Texas Military Department participates in E-Verify and will provide the Social Security Administration (SSA) and, if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) with information from each new employee's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization. All offers of employment are contingent upon the candidate having and maintaining legal authorization to work in the United States. Failure to present such authorization within the time specified by the U.S. Department of Labor will result in the offer being rescinded.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  • hand and power tools and equipment;
  • inventory control principles and methods;

  • servicing procedures and repair techniques

  • work in a military environment.

PHYSICAL/WORKING CONDITIONS

Work typically involves sitting, standing, and walking in a sedentary office setting. Must be able to squat, bend, and crouch for assigned work. Must be able to walk while doing assigned tasks 75% of the time. May be required to travel up to 25% of the time. Exposure to normal office temperatures and noise. May lift, carry, move, and/or set up equipment and materials that weigh up to 50 pounds.
