Job Description

The Tire Technician is responsible for the inspection, repair, replacement, and maintenance of commercial truck and trailer tires to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the company's fleet. This role supports fleet maintenance by performing tire-related services, maintaining proper tire inventory and air pressure standards, and assisting with general shop upkeep and organization.

The ideal candidate is safety-focused, mechanically inclined, and capable of working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of workmanship and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

Tire Service & Maintenance (Top Priority)

  • Remove, install, repair, and replace tires on commercial diesel truck tractors and trailers
  • Inspect tires, wheels, rims, and valve stems for wear, damage, and safety concerns
  • Properly inflate tires to manufacturer and company specifications using appropriate equipment
  • Perform tire repairs, including patching, plugging, and other approved repair methods
  • Conduct routine tire inspections and identify issues that may impact vehicle safety or performance
  • Assist in monitoring tire tread depth and recommend replacements when necessary
  • Ensure all tire work is completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with company standards

Fleet Support

  • Respond to tire-related service needs as directed by maintenance leadership
  • Assist with preventative maintenance inspections involving tires, wheels, and related components
  • Support technicians and maintenance personnel with basic shop tasks as needed
  • Maintain accurate records of tire replacements, repairs, and inspections
  • Assist with tire inventory management and notify management of inventory needs

Shop Maintenance & Organization

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
  • Keep work areas free of debris, hazards, and unnecessary clutter
  • Properly store tools, equipment, and tire inventory
  • Perform general housekeeping duties throughout the maintenance facility and yard
  • Assist with disposal and recycling of used tires and maintenance materials in accordance with company procedures

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures
  • Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Operate tire service equipment safely and efficiently
  • Report safety concerns, damaged equipment, or maintenance issues to management immediately
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards

Qualifications

  • Previous commercial tire technician or automotive tire service experience (preferred)
  • Experience working with heavy-duty trucks and trailers (preferred)
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and understanding of vehicle maintenance practices
  • Ability to safely operate tire-changing equipment, air tools, jacks, and related shop equipment
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy tires and equipment on a regular basis
  • Valid driver's license

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift and move tires, wheels, and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance as needed
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, and work in various weather conditions for extended periods
  • Ability to work safely in a maintenance shop and outdoor yard environment
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and tire service equipment regularly

Work Environment

  • Maintenance shop and fleet yard environment
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, grease, and other maintenance-related conditions
  • May require occasional overtime based on operational needs.
