The tipper machine puts a paper thin, pointed tip onto the filament so that the painted surface is left smooth without brush strokes. Flagging is also done by this machine, which “explodes” the end of the filament to create a “split end” like natural hair or hogs bristle. This split end allows the painter to pick up and hold large volumes of paint, release paint evenly, and leave a smooth surface without brush strokes.
