Education and Work Experience

  1. Education:
    1. High School Diploma
    2. GED equivalent
  2. Work/Professional Experience
    1. Save driving record of 3-5 years
    2. Candidate should have prior experience driving a 15-passenger bus. (Class B license for transport)

Scope of Position:

This position is responsible for driving a 15-passenger bus for all youth/adult related activities that require transport.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  1. Must have good communication skills with coworkers and with the public.
  2. Must have the ability to work in a team environment.
  3. Must be able to work in a sometimes-chaotic environment while maintaining focused on the task at hand.
  4. Must be able to follow instructions and safety requirements.
  5. Must be able to present a respectful, courteous attitude toward customers & fellow workers.
  6. Must possess a valid Oregon Driver’s License.
  7. Must have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  8. Must be able to pass The Salvation Army Decision Driving Test with a score of 75 or better.
  9. Must be able to obtain a First Aid/CPR certificate.
  10. Must be able to pass criminal background check for working with vulnerable youth and/or adults.
  11. Must be insurable and remain insured by The Salvation Army’s insurance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Additional Essential Duties and Responsibilities (as a Truck Driver):

  1. Driver is expected to be courteous and helpful to all.
  2. Inspect vehicles daily and report any corrections needed immediately to Supervisor.
  3. Ensure vehicles are clean and presentable (including interior).
  4. Gas and DEF as necessary. Check tire pressure and examine tires regularly.
  5. Monitor First Aid Kit and Fire Extinguisher to ensure they are stocked and up to date.
  6. Drive in a safe, courteous manner and obey all traffic laws.

Physical Requirements:

Must have the ability to, but not limited to, the following: sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis, grasp, push, pull objects, reach overhead, lift 40 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds assisted on occasion with no restrictions.

Working Conditions:

  1. This position requires the employee to work outdoors, indoors, and on a bus/truck. The employee must be prepared for all types of weather conditions and working environments that they may incur on any given shift.
  2. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, hand, or feel objects, tools, or controls; to talk or hear; reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
