Job Description

Job Title: Thrift Store Sales Associate

FLSA Status Full Time - non-exempt
Reports to: Sales Supervisor

Schedule: 40 hours per week Monday- Saturday overtime as needed.
Supervises: None

Rate of Pay$16 per hour

Closing Date: 6/6/2026

Benefits Standard; Full-Time, Non-Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:

  • Sick leave benefit – 1 day per month, 12 sick days per year (accrual and availability begins at hire)
  • Vacation benefit – 10 vacation days per year, accrued at the rate of .0385 hours for each hour worked, excluding overtime (accrual begins at hire but may not be used until the completion of six months of employment)
  • One floating day off for use (accrued immediately, and again annually, but may not be used until the completion of the initial three-month introductory period of employment)

This position is essential to ensure that the sales floor is stocked, organized, and presentable to customers. Providing excellent customer service and accurate cashiering are key parts of this role. This position also helps ensure that inventory is properly stocked and rotated throughout the store. Maintaining a clean, welcoming, and customer-focused environment is vital to doing this job well.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Customer service and cashiering
    • Greet customers and assist them throughout their shopping experience.
    • Operate the cash register, credit card terminal, and related point-of-sale equipment accurately and courteously.
  • Merchandising and stocking
  • Stock, rotate, and straighten merchandise on shelves, racks, and sales displays.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and attractive sales floor.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalency preferred
  • Retail or customer service experience preferred

Skills

  • Ability to operate point-of-sale equipment and handle cash accurately
  • Strong customer service, communication, and teamwork skills

Requirements

  • Driving
    • This position does not require driving .
  • Background Check
    • Continued employment will be contingent upon a biennial (every two years) background check that is processed in accordance with The Salvation Army’s policies
  • Physical
    • Ability to maneuver, to remain in a stationary position, to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead, to lift 25-50 pounds, to access and produce information from the POS, to operate telephone, to understand written information
