Director, Thought Leadership & Content Strategy
Slack — Product Marketing

About the Team:
The Product Marketing & Thought Leadership team is the strategic voice behind how Slack shows up in the market. We translate Slack's platform narrative and messaging into content the market actually reads, watches, and shares — building the content and influence engine that establishes Slack as the definitive leader in the future of work. We craft the arguments that move analysts, the content that earns attention, and the editorial moments that shape how the industry thinks about where work is going. We don't just describe what Slack does — we make the market feel it.

About the Role:
Slack is redefining what it means to work — not just with other people, but with AI. The multi starts with people, and extends to agents working on their behalf — Slack is the only place where that collaboration happens in the open, at scale. We're looking for a Director of Thought Leadership & Content Strategy who can turn that story into content the market can't look away from.

This is a senior creative and editorial leadership role for someone who thinks in narratives, writes in arguments, and knows how to build a content function that punches above its weight. You'll take Slack's platform narrative — built by the Portfolio Messaging team — and translate it into the content that makes it land: category-defining whitepapers, launch narratives, executive thought leadership, and the digital content that brings it all together. You'll also build and lead a small team of senior content and web PMMs, establishing the motion from the ground up.

You'll report to the Sr. Director of Portfolio PMM & Thought Leadership and sit at the intersection of editorial strategy, integrated GTM, content, and market influence. You'll work closely with Communications and Analyst Relations stakeholders, providing the narrative fuel that makes their external programs more effective — and partner with web and digital teams to ensure Slack's story lands with consistency and impact across every channel where the market is paying attention.

What You'll Do:

  • Translate narrative into content that lands — take Slack's platform messaging and turn it into content the market actually engages with; go beyond feature explanation to genuine market insight that shapes how the industry thinks about AI and the future of work

  • Write and produce anchor thought leadership — whitepapers, trend reports, narrative essays, and POV pieces that establish Slack's position at the frontier of how AI and humans work together

  • Own content for major product launches — develop the content narrative for Slack's biggest moments; translate messaging into content that earns attention and drives pipeline

  • Fuel comms and analyst relations — serve as the content engine behind Slack's external programs; develop story angles, briefing narratives, and POV frameworks that make comms pitches land and analyst conversations stick

  • Shape Slack's digital content presence — partner with the web PMM on content strategy for slack.com; ensure the site tells a coherent, compelling story at every touchpoint

  • Support executive thought leadership — ghostwrite bylines, LinkedIn content, and long-form pieces for Slack's senior leadership; capture voice without losing edge

  • Build and lead the team — manage and develop a small team of senior content and web PMMs; set the editorial standard, establish the creative bar, and build the content motion from scratch

  • Set the bar — establish Slack's content quality benchmarks and voice guidelines for thought leadership; be the senior leader others come to for what great looks like

What We're Looking For:

  • 10+ years in content strategy, product marketing, or editorial leadership — with a portfolio that demonstrates both strategic thinking and exceptional writing

  • Proven track record of building and leading high-performing content teams, not just contributing to them

  • A history of producing content that did something: shifted perception, drove pipeline, earned press, sparked conversation

  • Deep comfort working from an existing messaging architecture and making it sing — you can read a positioning doc and turn it into content that doesn't sound like one

  • Ability to translate complex product narratives into market-facing content; you understand what a product does and why customers should care

  • Experience owning content strategy for major product or GTM moments end-to-end

  • Strong editorial judgment — you know the difference between content that informs and content that moves people, and you consistently produce the latter

  • Fluency in AI, enterprise software, or future-of-work is a strong plus; genuine curiosity about where work is heading is a must

Why This Role, Why Now:
The question of where AI actually works — not just exists, but works, for real people, on real teams — is one of the defining business conversations of this decade. Slack has a clear and compelling answer. This role exists to make sure the world hears it — and to build the team and content engine that makes that happen at scale.
