Thesis work: Simplifying cutting equipment changes for trimmers and brush cutters

We are now looking for students within mechanical engineering that are interested in doing their thesis project at our Handheld Battery Product Development department.

Background:

At Handheld Battery Product Development, we develop and maintain Husqvarna's battery-powered handheld products for forest and garden applications, with a continuous focus on improving user experience, ease of use, and product performance.

Changing, removing, and mounting cutting equipment on current products requires the use of two separate tools. While these tools are supplied with the product, users must have them available when performing these tasks, adding complexity to the overall experience.

This thesis aims to investigate opportunities for improving the process of changing, removing and mounting cutting equipment, with focus on enhancing the user experience.

The project will focus on exploring and evaluating innovative concepts that simplify and enhance the user experience related to cutting equipment handling, while meeting requirements for functionality, robustness, safety, and product integration.

The objective

To perform a pre-study and concept development project resulting in a recommended concept for future evaluation and development.

Your skills and background

Bachelor or Master student in Mechanical Engineering, preferably with a focus on Product Development.

The thesis will include work such as

  • Literature review
  • Benchmarking
  • Time management/scheduling
  • Delimitation
  • Patent review
  • Concept development
  • Concept elimination and selection
  • 3D modeling
  • Material selection
  • Documentation and presentation of results
