As a Thermal Reservoir Engineer working for the Jackfish or Kirby areas, you have an opportunity to be a key player in a dynamic, collaborative team of professionals focused on optimizing and expanding our SAGD business in areas with vast growth potential. Working with a multi-disciplinary team of geoscientists, exploitation engineers, production engineers, and other company professionals, you will use your proven reservoir engineering experience to contribute to the maximization of bitumen recovery from existing and new thermal assets in the most economic and energy efficient way. Working closely with office and field staff, you will provide key input to the design and implementation of new recovery methods aimed at unlocking additional economic hydrocarbon resources in an environmentally sustainable way.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team to generate production forecasts for new and existing SAGD assets by using reservoir simulation, analytical methods, and production analogs
  • Provide expert technical support to exploitation and production engineers within operating areas to resolve reservoir performance issues and optimize SAGD performance
  • Use reservoir engineering tools to evaluate recompletions and redrill/reentry opportunities
  • Stay current with technological advances in bitumen recovery methods, as well as evaluate new technologies and contribute to feasibility studies and pilot projects
  • Lead and participate in best-practice and competitor analysis studies to support the continuous improvement of our thermal business
  • Review development and depletion plans for existing and new assets to ensure adherence to best practices
  • Provide regular, effective project updates and technical evaluation reports to senior management

What You Bring to the Role:

  • 2–20 years of thermal (SAGD) reservoir engineering experience is mandatory, along with a B.Sc. in Engineering
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA
  • Strong first-principles understanding of SAGD operations, including well completion types, steam chamber development, thermal conformance evaluation, heat transfer mechanisms, and NCG or solvent co-injection
  • Hands-on experience with uncertainty identification, evaluation and mitigation for E&P projects
  • Proficient in thermal numerical reservoir simulation using the CMG suite (STARS, Builder, Results, WinProp) and/or SLB suite (Intersect, Petrel-RE)
  • Proficiency in data analytics and visualization tools such as Python, Tableau, or Power BI — with the ability to build workflows, automate analysis, and communicate reservoir performance through data
  • Basic knowledge of related disciplines, including geology, geophysics, and production engineering
