Job Description

Role Purpose

  • Support technology deployment, improvement, and optimization of thermal process for advanced materials and products through engineering and manufacturing in Asia. 
  • Develop thermal process engineering capabilities and competence to meeting Corning business growth in Asia. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize thermal processes such as heat treatment, melting, forming, firing, sintering, annealing, tempering, brazing, curing, and stress reliving.
  • Conduct process optimization and improvement experiments and manufacturing studies. Apply statistical analysis with experimental data to pinpoint the process upset and root causes, then provide and implement the solutions.
  • Define process parameters (POR) such as temperature profiles, time cycles, atmospheres, and cooling rates.
  • Conduct process validation, qualification, and capability studies (IQ/OQ/PQ, Cp/Cpk).
  • Process engineering study and implementation of final products, final inspection, data collection, and quality controls to meet customer specifications.
  • Transfer technology to divisions and manufacturing plants with full implementation of trainings and documentation systems. (Standard Operation Procedures, Process Set-points and Training)
  • Support and train technicians and operators on thermal & material processes and best practices
  • Job requires frequent periodic travel to Corning Incorporated and vendors locations in Asia and USA for process development of new products, new operation and process improvement projects.
  • Work with research, development and manufacturing teams for new processes and product development and introductions. 

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Thermal Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in thermal process engineering, materials processing, or related manufacturing environments.
  • 1-3 years of experience in thermodynamics, heat transfer, materials behaviors at temperature, or phase diagrams and transformations
  • Hands-on experience with thermal processing equipment, such as kilns, furnaces, and advanced thermal analysis tools.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in DOE, statistical analysis, and process modeling.
  • Basic knowledge of quality and process reliability in manufacturing.
  • Basic analytical skill that able to process data efficiently to provide solution to problems
  • Manufacturing and engineering experience (international/multi-cultural manufacturing-based project experiences is a plus)
  • Acquaintance technical fundamentals with process engineering and materials
  • Able to collaborate across organizational boundaries.
  • Results oriented and high level of commitment.
  • The ability and self-driven to learn new technologies and processes quickly
  • Proven technical presentation skills
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written, including accurate recording of experiments, creating detailed documents, and reporting out or presentation within team.
  • Good written and oral communications skills in English
  • Able to collaborate with globe team in different time zones
