Job Description

Must be LPC or LCSW OR at least eligible for PLPC or LMSW license in state of Missouri. Licensure supervision available!

Essential Competencies, Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Facilitates group therapy and meal therapy weekly. Influences others to act in support of therapy. Ensures others grasp the purpose and benefits of the therapy. Tailors therapy sessions to the specific patient therapy group.
  • Maintains a group culture that ensures the safety of patients, which includes upholding the group expectations identified in the Patient Handbook.
  • Follows the group schedule, including starting and ending groups on time.
  • Develops, revises, and implements modules for group therapy, particularly as therapist learns new techniques, theories, etc. relevant to the group topic.
  • Provides support to patients during meal therapy, including assisting patients in setting meal goals, redirecting rituals or inappropriate behavior.
  • Facilitates post meal group, including assisting patients in processing struggles, identifying risks for ED behaviors, and assisting patients in identifying alternative coping strategies.

  • Communicates regularly with Direct Care staff regarding specific patient needs. Conveys ideas and facts verbally and in writing using language that will be best understood. Understands and learns from what others communicate.
    • Participate in team meetings when needed
    • Assists staff in understanding patients’ special issues, as well as skills for providing care relevant to these issues.
    • Communicates safety concerns directly, as well as writing in patients’ Kardexes.

  • Demonstrate commitment to advancing clinical skills and professional development through attendance of training.
    • Maintains license requirements by acquiring necessary continuing education units through training, public speaking, and home study options, as delineated by the state board.
    • The option of representing and formally delivering presentations at conferences, McCallum Place CEU events and seminars.
    • Attends annual safety training.
    • Completes McCallum Place required physical, and TB Testing
    • Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals
    • Demonstrates professional conduct, concern, respect and compassion toward all patients, families, co-workers and the public as a representative of McCallum Place.
      • Respects and maintains the confidentiality of all patient information, which includes not speaking about patient information in public settings or non-private areas at McCallum Place (i.e. community space, office with a door open, etc.).
      • Demonstrates ability to work in a cooperative manner as a team member.
      • Demonstrates ability to problem solve issues with coworkers and refrain from involvement in negative talk regarding patients or coworkers.
      • Communicates concerns regarding policies, working conditions, patients, or coworkers through appropriate channels.
      • Demonstrates dependability to include attendance and punctuality.
      • Is accountable-takes initiative and ownership of issues.
      • Represents willingness/enthusiasm to create, embrace and facilitate change

    Additional Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Complete other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

    Education and/or Experience

    1. Masters in human services field.
    2. Certificate/license.
    3. Experience with adolescents, adults and eating disorders.
    4. Experience in cognitive, expressive or psycho educational therapies.
    5. Excellent verbal and written communication.
    6. Crisis intervention and problem solving skills.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    1. Required to sit, stand, bend, stoop, walk, climb stairs and drive possibly for extended periods.
    2. Work is performed in an administrative office setting, therapeutic schools, and resident settings
    3. Must possess the ability to provide physical restraint to the residents.
    4. Must have visual, hearing and learning capabilities necessary to perform the essential functions described above.

    ENVIRONMENT AND SCHEDULING

    1. Therapist is on-site Saturday and Sunday for 5-6 hours each day.
    2. Work is performed in the residential setting and activities or facilities in the community.

    All employees who have access to health information whose confidentiality is protected by the HIPAA Privacy Rule are required by the Rule to receive training so that they have an understanding and knowledge of the Privacy Rule that corresponds to their job responsibilities and of the group health plan’s policies and procedures that impact on their job duties. Site specific training on requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule and the plan’s health information policies and procedures under the direction of the plan privacy officer may be required for this position based upon site specific requirement. Employees who violate the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Rule will be subject to discipline, up to and including termination
