About the Therapeutic Home Based Care (THBC) Model

The THBC model is designed to support children, this type of specialised foster care is known in the sector as Therapeutic Home Based Care (THBC). It involves one-on-one home based care for children and young people who have complex care needs by providing them with stable, nurturing, and therapeutic home environments.

You will be supported by a team of professionals, including therapeutic specialists, to ensure you have the resources and guidance needed to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Acceptance and Support: Embrace the strengths and needs of children and young people, ensuring they receive the clinical and therapeutic support they require.
  • Caring Capability: Consistently meet the care needs of children with high and complex needs, participating in essential training programs to enhance your skills.
  • Team Collaboration: Actively participate in Care Team Meetings, working under the supervision of a Therapeutic Specialist to implement therapeutic strategies.
  • Higher Communication Standards: Engage in frequent and transparent communication with the care team, providing regular updates and receiving guidance.
  • Home Support: Welcome increased support and guidance within your home to facilitate therapeutic care planning.
  • Reflective Learning: Participate in ongoing accredited training and reflective practice to continually develop your skills and understanding.

  • Intensive Foster Care support package, including ongoing training, access to specialist therapeutic practitioners, and flexible support options.
  • Generous tax-free allowance ( base of $76,000+), reflecting the demanding needs of the children and young people.

  • Comprehensive training with access to free accredited training with CASPA in Therapeutic Care and other service providers.
  • Specialist, continuous support, mentoring, and guidance from therapeutic specialists to help you respond effectively to the needs of the children in your care.
  • Collaborative environment within a dedicated Foster Care support team, contributing to the holistic development and well-being of children and young people.
  • Resource allocation, CASPA will provide resources that are aligned with the level of care required, ensuring you can provide appropriate and effective support.

The Royal Children's Hospital (RCH) has been providing outstanding care for Victoria's children and their families for over 147 years.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.

With a passionate, highly skilled and committed staff campus wide of over 5,000, we provide a full range of clinical services, tertiary care and health promotion and prevention programs for children and young people.

We are the designated state-wide major trauma centre for paediatrics in Victoria and a Nationally Funded Centre for cardiac and liver transplantation.

When it comes to training and research we partner with the very best. Our campus partners, the Murdoch Childrens Research Institute (MCRI) and The University of Melbourne Department of Paediatrics, along with the RCH Foundation, are on site with the hospital in Parkville.
