About the Role

Strive Community Care provides therapeutic home environments for children and young people with histories of complex trauma, abuse and neglect.

We are currently seeking new team members to join our growing Strive team. We have Permanent Part-Time (minimum 40 or 60 hours per fortnight) and Casual Therapeutic Care Worker opportunities available in the Gympie region. In this role, you will play a vital part in supporting children and young people on their healing journey by providing care within therapeutic homes. Therapeutic Care Workers also mentor children and young people in Out-of-Home Care (OOHC) through the WeStrive Mentoring Program. These positions require availability to work across a 24/7 rotating roster, including sleepover shifts (minimum 1–2 per week), weekends, and public holidays..

We utilise a strong Therapeutic Framework and unique CREATE Model of Care with a focus on establishing holistic safety. Children and young people are provided with a sense of family, support to heal, opportunity to positively connect with others, and rebuild their lives.

Key Responsibilities

As a Therapeutic Care Worker, your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating and maintaining a safe, positive, and nurturing environment for children and young people in our care
  • Implementing Behaviour Support Plans and Individual Crisis Management Plans to ensure safety and wellbeing
  • Supporting the development of independent living skills, including cooking, meal planning, budgeting, shopping, and maintaining a household
  • Using a trauma-informed approach in all interactions, responding to behaviours with empathy, understanding, and non-punitive support
  • Acting as a positive role model, engaging young people in meaningful activities that build confidence, life skills, and self-worth

Important Considerations

In this role, you may support young people who present with complex behaviours, including:

  • Verbal and physical aggression
  • Property damage
  • Sexually reactive behaviours
  • Substance misuse
  • Criminal activity and Youth Justice involvement
  • Self-injury or suicidal ideation
  • Animal abuse
  • Situations requiring safe cleaning and sanitising of environments

The successful applicant/s will require the following Qualifications and Experience:

  • Cert IV or higher in Youth Work, Social Work, Counselling, or a related field (completed qualification or currently enrolled)
  • Current Working with Children Clearance Check (Blue Card)
  • Current NDIS Workers Screening card (Yellow Card)
  • LCS2 Check (must already have one or apply during interview) AND Valid Police Check (within 12 months)
  • Unrestricted QLD Driver’s Licence
  • Current statement of attainment of First Aid & CPR certifications (HLTAID009 / HLTAID011)
  • NDIS Workers Orientation Module
  • Hope and Healing module (or willing to complete this upon employment)
  • Experience supporting young people with complex trauma (Highly regarded)
  • Skills in case planning, behaviour support, and report writing (Desirable)
  • Cultural knowledge and/or lived experience that supports an inclusive and culturally responsive approach to working with young people
