About the role

Mater Private Hospital Townsville is currently seeking a motivated individual to join our Hyde Park Theatre Team as a Theatre Orderly. The successful applicant will be offered casual employment, averaging approximately 20 hours per week, depending on theatre activity levels. This role is integral to supporting our daily operations, and the successful candidate must be available to work within our Monday-to-Friday day surgery unit operating hours, from 7:00am to 9:00pm.

Our Hyde Park campus is home to a modern four‑theatre complex supporting a diverse range of specialties, including ophthalmology, pain management, dental, general surgery, and a small but growing volume of urogynecology and urology.

Salary range: $32.02 - $34.52 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing

The Theatre Orderly is responsible for assisting with the transportation of patients throughout the hospital pre and post surgery. Assisting nurses and doctors with manual handling of patients, setting up and cleaning of medical equipment and medical gases. All transport will be onsite across both Townsville Mater Hospitals

  • Attending regular staff meetings and trainings
  • Patient transfers and delivering excellent customer service and patient care
  • Perform required tasks under the direction of medical and nursing staff.
  • Equipment auditing
  • Clean contaminated equipment and other used items as required.
  • Assist with basic patient care as requested under supervision of nursing staff.

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • A high level of understanding of infection control procedures and processes
  • Experience working as an Orderly within a hospital setting (desirable not essential)
  • Effective communication and ability to understand instructions
  • Effective organisational skills and time management
  • Ability to work without supervision and within a team environment.
  • Ability to demonstrates correct techniques of patient lifting, moving and transportation.
  • Physically fit and enjoy a fast-paced working environment
