Starting Wage: $20.00/hour

Closing Date: Open until filled, may close at any time

Shift/Workdays and Hours: Variable

Position Purpose:

The Theatre Director will possess the basics of theatre, dance, and/or music to run the MPRD summer musical theatre program. Must be able to manage large, diverse groups of children. Must be available Tuesday evenings during the school year.

Job Duties:

  • Block an entire children’s musical.
  • Able to work with and teach young children theatre techniques.
  • Ability to create lesson plans/curriculum.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, written and verbally, with students, parents, and coworkers.
  • Able to establish and maintain cooperative professional working relationships with others, individually and in a team environment.
  • Actively listen to customers and address any concerns or needs.
  • Provide excellent customer service and possess a service philosophy which reflects the mission of Parks & Recreation.
  • Must assist, develop, and facilitate a safe, successful, and ultimately fun theatre program.

Requirements

Essential Physical Functions & Environment

  • Work performed at indoor facility: Peace Memorial City Auditorium.
  • Noise level and activity level vary.
  • Stand, walk, sit, use hands, handle, feel, speak, hear, climb stair, push, pull, or lift up to 50 pounds.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Must be 18 years or older.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

  • One (1) year of college education with courses taken in Theatre or Education.
  • Work/volunteer experience with school-age children.
  • Experience with musical theatre and past directing.
  • Knowledge of basic theatre techniques.
  • Must pass a background check.
