Travel Percentage: Up to 10%JOB SUMMARY
The Theatre Assistant contributes to the calling of Medical Teams International by sterilising and preparing theatre equipment, instruments and surfaces according to hygiene standards and procedures to ensure high quality of care and safe environment for the patient.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Clean, disinfect, and Sterilize of all surgical instruments and equipment, and prepare surgical trolleys for operation.
- Assist the surgical team before, during and after operations as requested.
- Assist in preparing patients for surgery, explaining procedures and transporting patients between ward and operating room.
- Scrub, glove, mask and gown the surgical team.
- Pass surgical instruments to surgeon, cut sutures, apply dressings and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Dispose of surgical waste safely in accordance with IPC procedures and protocol.
- Ensure biomedical equipment is in good working order by using in accordance with user manual and protocols, perform cleaning and minor maintenance and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
- Safely handle, properly store, and accurately document use of medical narcotics in compliance with regulatory SOPs.
- Ensure that medical practices are conducted with the highest level of integrity and ethics according to professional and Medical Teams codes of conduct.
- Ensure direct reports have clear objectives, receive mentorship and participate in capacity building opportunities.
Other Duties:
- Ensure the Safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation & Abuse, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace policies. Incumbents will remain alert and responsive to any child and adult safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child and adult safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Safeguarding code of conduct and behavior expectations.
- Utilize volunteers and interns when appropriate.
- Additional duties as assigned.

QualificationsEDUCATION, LICENSES & CERTIFICICATIONS
Required:
- Certificate in Theatre Techniques
- Registration with Allied Health Professionals Council
- Valid practicing license
EXPERIENCE
Required:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role
Preferred:
- Experience working with INGOs
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITITES
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of instrument sterilization
- Knowledge of infection prevention and control (IPC) protocol
Skills:
- Skilled in applying dressings and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis
- Excellent interpersonal, relational and communication skills
- Skilled at building and maintaining a high functioning, high performing work team.
- A good command of both written and spoken English
Abilities:

- Physically fit with ability to move patient from operating table to trolley
- Ability to take action without waiting to be told what to do

- If in travel status, occasional to frequent traversing over rough or steep terrain in either a motor vehicle or on foot.
