Position Responsibilities

Position Summary
The Department of Theatre is seeking a part-time (20 hrs per week) Scene Shop Assistant for the 26-27 academic year to work in the Hartung Theatre scene shop under the supervision of the Technical Director.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • understanding and following all safety protocols;
  • ability to read and understand blueprints and designer working drawings;
  • review production and rehearsal reports.

  • supervising students during shop hours;
  • assisting with load-ins and strike;
  • consulting with TD on build schedule and job assignments;
  • clean-up at end of the work day to make space safe for rehearsals.

Position Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • experience with wood shop tools such as saws, drills, grinders, pneumatics;
  • knowledge of building materials and hardware;
  • knowledge of theatre safety and cleanliness;
  • supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • experience leading building teams for construction;
  • experience doing carpentry for theatre;
  • experience setting up and using stage lighting equipment;
  • experience setting up and using sound equipment like speakers, amps, and microphones.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move 50 pounds.
Able to climb a tall ladder.
