The NHMLAC is seeking a Theater Technical Supervisorfor our Education & Programs department. The Theater Technical Supervisor oversees all technical aspects of the Museum’s theatrical programming and experiences ranging from audiovisual support, lighting installation and maintenance, digital/electronic component troubleshooting, and light fabrication as needed

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Team Management: Is the on-site theater technical team lead during programming, including on evenings and weekends. Responsible for hiring, training, and supervision of Theater technical staff, including audio visual, stage, and lighting staff. May supervise work study students.
  • Budget Management: Manages and budgets for existing and future theatrical technical needs.
  • Documentation and Organization: Designs and produces theatrical plots and other documentation, tracks and organizes inventory.
  • Planning, Scheduling and Coordination:Participates in the planning and scheduling for theatrical programming. Plans staffing schedules for theatrical programs and Theater space. Coordinates theater tech projects.
  • Program Development:Collaborate in the development of and performance of live theatrical performances, as technical support
  • Theatrical Systems Maintenance:Performs or supervises installation, de-installation, programming, maintenance, research and troubleshooting of audio visual and lighting equipment, supplies, systems and software for Performing Arts live theatrical programs and NHM Commons Theater.Works with Manager, Performing Arts on the maintenance and repair of audio systems housed within full-suit cable-controlled and animatronic puppets.

This position has the following requirements:

  • Familiar with theatrical equipment, lighting, and A/V and multimedia technical skills. Familiarity with exhibit set/scenic techniques and tools desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management and budgets with proven ability to execute theatrical and related events, multiple participants, within schedule and cost parameters. Ability to manage a diverse team of professionals with varying backgrounds and skill sets to foster a successful team.
  • Proven experience in the production of theatrical programming and equipment and understanding and execution.
  • Must have experience with shop tools, stationary shop equipment and hand tools.
  • Ability to read lighting plots and stage floor plans.
  • Has experience using a personal computer and with MS Office and its Word, Excel and Outlook functions (PC and/or Macintosh).

The hourly rate for this position is$31.62-$34.00 with excellent benefits. This is a full-time regular, non-exempt position.
