Job Description

Who We Are
Not just built for today. Building for tomorrow.

DIRTT is a global leader in industrialized construction. Our system of physical products and digital tools empowers organizations—alongside construction and design leaders—to build high-performing, adaptable interior environments.

Operating across workplace, healthcare, education, and public sector markets, DIRTT provides total design freedom and greater certainty in cost, schedule, and outcomes.

We are a highly motivated group of individuals who embrace the company’s entrepreneurial spirit. Everyone is hands-on, regardless of role. We celebrate our successes together, work hard, have fun, and treat one another with respect.

Who You Are

The Testing Engineer is responsible for the operation, development, and continuous improvement of DIRTT’s product development and validation laboratories, with a strong emphasis on building code compliance, certification testing, and engineered validation processes. This isn't a Testing Engineer like you've seen before. This position is not meant for a QA tester. We're testing physical products like doors, fire rated title and wall systems.

This role is responsible for designing, executing, and coordinating advanced testing programs to validate product performance against internal standards, building codes, and third-party certification requirements. The Testing Engineer works directly with Product Development, Production, and external certification bodies to support the development, qualification, and release of new products.

The Testing Engineer should possess a strong understanding of engineering principles, material properties, and regulatory frameworks, along with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues, interpret standards, and ensure products meet required compliance and certification benchmarks.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, develop, and execute test methodologies and apparatus aligned with applicable building codes, engineering standards, and certification requirements (e.g., ASTM, ISO, UL)
  • Lead and perform product validation testing to ensure compliance with building codes, certification standards, and internal performance criteria
  • Coordinate and support third-party certification testing, including preparation, documentation, and communication with external agencies
  • Interpret and apply building code requirements and certification standards to product design and validation processes
  • Conduct internal experiments and engineering tests on materials and assemblies to evaluate performance, durability, and compliance
  • Partner with Product Development and Production teams to support design validation, manufacturability, and certification readiness
  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation, test reports, and certification records to support product approvals and audits
  • Collaborate with Procurement and Quality teams to establish compliance and quality documentation for materials and vendor onboarding
  • Support the development of manufacturing SOPs and validation protocols to ensure consistent and compliant production output
  • Analyze test data and provide engineering insights and recommendations to improve product performance and compliance
  • Operate and maintain specialized laboratory equipment and testing facilities
  • Identify product or process gaps related to code compliance or certification risks and implement corrective actions
  • Ensure all testing activities comply with health, safety, and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of testing, certification, and validation activities
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support product development, certification strategy, and continuous improvement initiatives

What You’ll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, or a related field)
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation preferred
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in product testing, validation, or engineering within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, certification processes, and regulatory standards (ASTM, ISO, UL)
  • Experience working with third-party certification bodies and compliance testing
  • Proficiency in quality management systems (ISO 9001) and engineering validation processes
  • Strong understanding of material properties, structural performance, and testing methodologies
  • Experience designing and building test fixtures and validation setups
  • Proficiency with data analysis tools, engineering software, and CAD systems
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally
  • Hands-on experience with tools, equipment, and laboratory environments
  • Ability to work in environments with exposure to industrial materials
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Knowledge of DIRTT products and processes is considered an asset
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

What’s In It for You

  • Competitive base salary plus a variable pay (bonus) program
  • Eligibility to participate in DIRTT’s Employee Share Purchase Plan
  • For in-office roles: continental breakfast, coffee, tea, soda, daily hot cafeteria lunch, and snacks
  • Comprehensive health benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Disability and insurance benefits, including short- and long-term disability, life insurance, dependent coverage, and voluntary options (may vary by location)
  • Mental health and wellbeing support, including an Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • A thorough and supportive onboarding program designed to set you up for success
